Job Description

The Vessel Operator manages end-to-end post-fixture voyage execution for a fleet of dry bulk vessels (Handysize, Supramax, Panamax, or Capesize). This role acts as the primary focal point linking the chartering team, vessel masters, port agents, bunker suppliers, and charterers to optimize voyage profitability, ensure contract compliance, and minimize operational friction.

Key Responsibilities

  • Voyage Planning & Execution: Issue clear, detailed voyage instructions to vessel masters in accordance with Charter Party (C/P) terms. Monitor daily noon reports tracking speed, fuel consumption, weather routing, and ETA updates.
  • Port & Agency Management: Appoint and manage port agents worldwide. Review and approve Proforma Disbursement Accounts (PDA) and Final Disbursement Accounts (FDA).
  • Cargo Operations & Documentation: Oversee load/discharge operations, stowage plans, and cargo handling constraints (e.g., grain stability, draft limits, hazard requirements). Ensure timely issuance and compliance of Bills of Lading (B/L), Cargo Manifests, and Letters of Indemnity (LOI).
  • Bunkering Strategy: Plan, order, and coordinate bunker stem supply for voyages to minimize fuel costs and operational downtime while ensuring compliance with environmental regulations (MARPOL, IMO compliance).
  • Commercial Financials & Claims: Calculate freight, hire statements, and laytime/demurrage/despatch claims. Monitor performance claims (speed/consumption under-performance) in coordination with chartering and legal teams.
  • Stakeholder Coordination: Maintain daily operational communication with Charterers, Shipowners, Brokers, Port Captains, and Technical Managers.
