The VAVE Engineer is responsible for the design optimization and cost out for post-launched Bio-Rad's diagnostic and life science instruments. Support localization, DFM and qualification of various ME commodities and standards components. Initiate value analysis and develop design and cost improvement plan, at component and sub-module levels. The engineer is to develop and support system test/ qualification plan, execute test protocols and generate technical reports.
How You'll Make An Impact
- Provide overall mechanical design technical support, DFM, engineering justification and reports.
- Design and optimization of mechanical components and subassemblies.
- Develop mechanical drawings in accordance with applicable standards.
- Perform DFX, recommend appropriate design/re-design, and provide technical support in improving product quality & reliability, reducing number of mechanical components and cost of goods sold.
- Ensure design modification of mechanical parts conforming to product performance specifications by performing verification and validation.
- Analysis of mechanical part systems, including finite element analysis for structural, fatigue, thermal, vibration, and acoustics.

- Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
- Minimum 5 years of design experience in R&D environment in medical devices or medical technology industries.
- Understanding of the requirements of Change Control and Design Control within a regulated environment (FDA, ISO, etc.)
- Excellent problem solving and time management skills
- Work effectively in individual contribution as well as work productively in a team environment.
- Proficient in 3D SolidWorks/CAD modeling
- Proficient in CAD software such as SolidWorks or extensive experience in similar CAD package
- Hands-on mechanical design, drafting, prototyping and debugging skills
- Design experience in electro-mechanical parts, assemblies and systems for laboratory instruments
- Good verbal and written communication skills
- Experience working in a regulated environment would be an asset
- Experience in packaging design/ testing and plastic molding would be preferable
