About the Role
The Utilities & Facilities Technician will be responsible for the operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of utility systems and building facilities within the pharmaceutical manufacturing plant. The role ensures that critical utilities and facility systems operate reliably, safely, and in compliance with GMP, EHS, and regulatory requirements.
Responsibilities
Utility Systems Operation & Maintenance
- Perform preventive, corrective, and routine maintenance activities on utility systems including:
- HVAC systems
- Chillers and cooling systems
- Boilers and steam systems
- Compressed air systems
- Purified water and water treatment systems
- Waste treatment systems
- Monitor utility equipment performance and report abnormalities, alarms, or deviations.
- Support troubleshooting activities to identify equipment issues and restore system availability.
- Perform equipment checks, inspections, and basic condition monitoring.
- Maintain proper housekeeping and ensure utility areas are kept in a safe and orderly condition.
Facilities & Building Maintenance
- Perform maintenance activities for building facilities, including:
- Cleanroom support systems
- Lighting and electrical systems
- Fire protection systems
- Building infrastructure and equipment
- Support HVAC monitoring to ensure required temperature, humidity, and environmental conditions are maintained.
- Coordinate and support external contractors during maintenance and repair activities.
GMP Documentation & Compliance
- Complete maintenance records, checklists, logbooks, and work orders accurately and on time.
- Ensure all maintenance activities are performed according to approved SOPs, GMP requirements, and safety procedures.
- Support audit preparation by ensuring maintenance documentation is complete and traceable.
- Report any equipment failures, deviations, or safety concerns promptly.
Continuous Improvement & Reliability Support
- Participate in improvement activities to enhance equipment reliability, reduce downtime, and improve utility efficiency.
- Provide feedback and suggestions based on equipment operation and maintenance experience.
- Support troubleshooting investigations and root cause analysis activities.
- Assist with installation, testing, and start-up activities for new utility equipment and systems.
Safety & Environmental Compliance
- Perform all work in accordance with EHS requirements, safety procedures, and permit-to-work systems.
- Conduct equipment isolation and lockout/tagout activities where required.
- Identify workplace hazards and report unsafe conditions.
- Support emergency response activities related to utility and facility systems.
Project & Commissioning Support
- Support engineers and project teams during installation, commissioning, and qualification activities.
- Assist with equipment testing, functional checks, and verification activities.
- Provide technical support during equipment start-up and handover.
Qualifications
- Diploma or Technical Certificate in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Building Services, or related discipline.
- Minimum 3–5 years of experience in utilities, facilities, or maintenance roles, preferably within a pharmaceutical, biotechnology, healthcare, or regulated manufacturing environment.
Required Skills
- Hands-on experience with some of the following systems:
- HVAC systems
- Chillers and cooling systems
- Boilers and steam systems
- Purified water systems
- Compressed air systems
- Building management systems (BMS)
- Basic understanding of GMP, EHS requirements, and regulated manufacturing practices.
- Experience using Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) is preferred.
- Able to read technical drawings, manuals, and equipment documentation.
- Good troubleshooting skills with a hands-on and proactive approach.
- Willing to support shift work, standby/on-call duties, and emergency response when required.
- Good communication skills and ability to work effectively with engineers, technicians, contractors, and cross-functional teams.
Preferred Skills
- Experience in a pharmaceutical or regulated manufacturing environment.
