Position Summary
We are seeking a motivated Utilities Project Engineer trainee to support the planning, construction, and commissioning of pure water, cooling tower and wastewater utility projects.
The role combines technical engineering, project coordination, and field oversight to ensure projects are delivered on time, on budget, and in compliance with codes and regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Support design and engineering for utility projects: prepare drawings, calculations, specifications, and cost estimates.
Coordinate with cross functional stakeholders, contractors, vendors, permitting authorities, and internal teams.
Develop and review construction plans, shopfloor drawings, and contractor submittals.
Perform site visits and construction observation track progress, quality, and safety compliance.
Manage project schedules and project documentation.
Prepare technical reports, as-built drawings, operation/maintenance manuals, and close-out packages.
Assist with permitting, regulatory compliance, and utility coordination (easements, ROW permits).
Apply engineering standards, codes, and best practices provide technical guidance to junior staff.
Support commissioning, start-up, testing, and handover activities.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Civil, Chemical, Mechanical, Environmental, or Electrical Engineering (or related).
3+ years experience in utilities design/construction (municipal utilities, water/wastewater, gas, or power distribution).
Familiarity with BAS, PCS (DeltaV), SCADA, P&ID, pipeline design, pump/station design, or electrical distribution as relevant.
Proficient in CMMS SAP system and MS Office Project Management software.
Knowledge of local/state/federal permitting and utility standards/codes.
Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
