Job Summary
The Tunnel Manager will be responsible for overseeing all tunnelling operations for LTA MRT infrastructure with a strong focus on TBM (Tunnel Boring Machine) operations. The role requires extensive experience in managing tunnelling works in complex ground conditions, ensuring safe and efficient project execution in compliance with LTA requirements, project specifications and safety standards. The Tunnel Manager will lead site teams, coordinate with clients and consultants and ensure successful delivery of tunnelling works from TBM assembly through commissioning to dismantling.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage all tunnelling operations for MRT or underground infrastructure projects in Singapore.
- Oversee TBM operations, including planning, installation, assembly, testing, commissioning, and dismantling of TBM equipment.
- Manage and supervise TBM launch and retrieval operations, ensuring safe and efficient tunnelling activities.
- Develop and implement tunnelling methodologies and construction plans in accordance with project requirements and ground conditions.
- Monitor tunnelling progress, TBM performance, and operational parameters to ensure productivity and safety targets are achieved.
- Plan and coordinate TBM testing and commissioning, including Site Acceptance Test (SAT) and performance verification prior to tunnelling operations.
- Supervise and coordinate tunnel E&M works on site, including integration with TBM systems and tunnel infrastructure.
- Lead coordination with clients, consultants, authorities, and specialist E&M subcontractors for tunnelling related activities.
- Ensure tunnelling operations comply with LTA standards, safety regulations and contractual requirements.
- Identify and manage geotechnical risks, ground conditions, and tunnelling interface challenges to ensure safe project execution.
- Monitor construction progress and ensure work quality meets project specifications and engineering standards.
- Coordinate with engineering, geotechnical and design teams to address technical issues during tunnelling works.
- Review and approve method statements, risk assessments and work procedures related to tunnelling activities.
- Manage and supervise tunnelling teams, site engineers and subcontractors to ensure efficient site operations.
- Prepare regular reports on tunnelling progress, TBM performance, risks and construction issues to project management and stakeholders.
- Ensure compliance with workplace safety requirements, environmental regulations and project quality standards.
Job Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or a related Engineering discipline from a recognized university.
- Minimum 10 years of tunnelling experience after tertiary education, preferably in LTA MRT or underground infrastructure projects in Singapore.
- Proven experience managing TBM tunnelling works of similar scale, complexity and ground conditions.
- Strong hands on experience in TBM assembly, testing and commissioning, Site Acceptance Test (SAT), operations, and dismantling.
- Experience supervising tunnel E&M works and coordinating with specialist subcontractors.
- In-depth knowledge of LTA tunnelling standards, safety regulations and construction requirements.
- Strong leadership and project management skills with the ability to manage multidisciplinary site teams.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced construction environment and manage complex underground construction activities.
