(A)Job Summary:
The Tunnel Geologist is responsible for assessing ground and geological conditions during tunnel excavation, providing geological support to the tunnelling team, and ensuring safe and efficient excavation methods in compliance with design and safety standards.
(B)Essential Job Functions:
The Tunnel Geologist is responsible for, but not limited to, the following:
- Conduct geological mapping, face logging, and monitoring of ground conditions during tunnel excavation.
- Assess soil, rock, groundwater, and fault conditions to support excavation and support design.
- Provide real-time geological advice to the TBM / NATM / SEM tunnelling teams to ensure safe and efficient progress.
- Liaise with design engineers, geotechnical engineers, and construction teams to resolve ground-related issues.
- Monitor instrumentation and settlement data and evaluate risks of ground movement or water ingress.
- Assist in developing and updating geological risk registers and method statements.
- Prepare daily and weekly geological reports with records of ground conditions and tunnelling progress.
- Ensure compliance with LTA/project specifications, safety regulations, and geotechnical best practices.
- Any ad-hoc tasks assigned by the superior.
(C)Minimum Qualifications/ Job Experience:
- Bachelor's / master's degree in Geology, Engineering Geology, or related discipline.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in tunnelling, underground works, or geotechnical engineering.
- Familiar with TBM, NATM, SEM, or mined tunnelling methods.
- Good communication and reporting skills, with ability to work in challenging site conditions.
