Job Description

Job Summary

The Transformer Supervisor is responsible for supervising and coordinating all site activities related to power transformer installation, testing, commissioning, and maintenance for HVDC projects. The role ensures work is executed safely, in compliance with project specifications, OEM requirements, quality standards, and schedule commitments.

Key Responsibilities

Site Supervision & Execution

  • Supervise installation, erection, oil handling, testing, and commissioning of HVDC converter transformers, smoothing reactors, and auxiliary transformers.
  • Ensure all transformer-related works comply with approved drawings, method statements, OEM manuals, and project specifications.
  • Coordinate day-to-day site activities with civil, electrical, and commissioning teams.
  • Monitor manpower, tools, and materials to ensure efficient execution of works.

Quality & Safety

  • Enforce HSE policies, risk assessments (RA), method statements (MS), and permit-to-work systems.
  • Ensure safe handling of transformer components, oil processing systems, and high-voltage equipment.
  • Conduct toolbox talks and safety briefings.
  • Maintain quality documentation such as checklists, inspection reports, and test records.

Testing & Commissioning Support

  • Supervise and support:
  • Transformer oil filtration, degassing, and drying
  • Electrical tests (IR, WR, TTR, SFRA, Tan Delta, PD, etc.)
  • HV and LV cable terminations
  • Coordinate with OEM engineers, commissioning teams, and client representatives during inspections and energization activities.

Planning & Coordination

  • Participate in site planning and progress meetings.
  • Identify construction risks, constraints, and mitigation plans.
  • Track progress and report issues, delays, and technical challenges to management.
  • Interface with client, consultants, OEMs, and subcontractors.

Documentation & Reporting

  • Review and maintain:
  • Daily progress reports
  • Non-conformance reports (NCRs) and corrective actions
  • As-built drawings and commissioning dossiers
  • Support project handover and final documentation submission.

Technical Requirements

  • Strong knowledge of:
  • Power & HVDC Converter Transformers
  • Transformer erection, oil filling, drying, and testing processes
  • HVDC substation systems and interfaces
  • Familiar with international standards:
  • IEC / IEEE standards for transformers
  • Utility and transmission authority standards
  • Ability to read and interpret:
  • Electrical drawings, schematics, GA drawings, and wiring diagrams

Qualifications

  • Diploma or Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent
  • Relevant certifications in:
  • Electrical safety
  • HV switching / authorization (preferred)
  • OEM transformer training (advantage)

Experience

  • Minimum 5–10 years of experience in power transformer installation and supervision
  • At least 2–3 years of experience in HVDC (HDVC) projects, preferably in:
  • Converter stations
  • Grid substations (±320 kV / ±500 kV or above)
  • Experience working with major OEMs (ABB / Hitachi Energy, Siemens Energy, GE, etc.) is an advantage.

  • Ability to work under tight schedules and high safety standards
  • Willingness to work extended hours and on rotational or overseas projects

Preferred Attributes

  • Prior experience in large-scale EPC HVDC projects
  • Familiarity with client utilities and transmission authorities
  • Multicultural site experience and ability to work with international teams
