Transaction Monitoring Specialist

Corporate Banking | Singapore

Role Overview

Our client, a well-established bank is seeking a detail-oriented and analytical Transaction Monitoring Specialist to join the Corporate Banking Compliance team. The successful candidate will be responsible for reviewing and investigating transaction monitoring alerts, identifying potential money laundering and terrorist financing risks, and ensuring appropriate escalation and reporting in accordance with the Bank's AML/CFT framework and regulatory requirements.

The role will work closely with Compliance, Relationship Managers, Operations and other stakeholders to assess unusual transaction activity and ensure timely resolution of alerts and investigations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review and investigate transaction monitoring alerts generated through the Bank's AML monitoring systems.
  • Analyse customer transaction activity against their KYC/CDD profile, expected account activity, business nature and risk rating.
  • Identify unusual or potentially suspicious transaction patterns and assess whether there are reasonable explanations for the activity.
  • Conduct investigations into potential money laundering, terrorist financing, sanctions evasion and other financial crime risks.
  • Perform transaction analysis across corporate banking products, including payments, remittances, trade finance, deposits, FX and other banking activities.
  • Conduct enhanced investigations on higher-risk clients and transactions where required.
  • Review supporting information and obtain additional documentation or clarification from Relationship Managers and relevant business units.
  • Escalate cases involving potential suspicious activity to Compliance management and relevant stakeholders in accordance with internal procedures.
  • Assist with the preparation of Suspicious Transaction Reports (STRs) and regulatory submissions where appropriate.
  • Maintain comprehensive and well-documented investigation records, including rationale for alert disposition and escalation decisions.
  • Identify recurring transaction patterns and emerging financial crime typologies and highlight potential control gaps.
  • Support the review and enhancement of transaction monitoring scenarios, rules, thresholds and processes.
  • Participate in AML/CFT investigations, remediation exercises, compliance reviews and audit activities.
  • Work closely with KYC/CDD teams to ensure transaction activity is appropriately reflected in customer risk assessments and ongoing due diligence.
  • Keep abreast of MAS AML/CFT requirements, regulatory developments and emerging financial crime trends.
  • Support the implementation of new regulatory requirements and enhancements to the Bank's AML/CFT framework.

Requirements

  • Degree in Finance, Business, Accounting, Law, Risk Management, Compliance or a related discipline.
  • 3-7 years of relevant experience in Transaction Monitoring, AML, Compliance, Financial Crime or Investigations, preferably within a corporate or commercial banking environment.
  • Strong understanding of AML/CFT principles, transaction monitoring and financial crime risks.
  • Experience analysing corporate banking transactions and identifying unusual or suspicious activity.
  • Good understanding of corporate client profiles, payment flows, trade transactions and cross-border transactions.
  • Ability to assess transaction activity in the context of a customer's business model, source of funds and expected account activity.
  • Knowledge of MAS AML/CFT Notices and Guidelines will be highly advantageous.
  • Experience with transaction monitoring systems or AML investigation platforms is preferred.
  • CAMS, ICA, IBF Compliance or other relevant certifications would be an advantage.
