Description
We are partnering with an oil trading firm with an established international trading network. Due to continued growth in its commercial operations business, they are seeking an Operations Executive to support end-to-end cargo and shipping operations across global waterborne activities.
Role
Reporting to the Operations Manager, the Operations Executive will be responsible for managing the full logistics chain from supplier to customer, ensuring safe, reliable, and efficient execution of cargo and vessel operations. The role will coordinate closely with traders, charterers, inspectors, terminals, shipowners, agents, finance, compliance, and risk teams to facilitate smooth day-to-day operations. Responsibilities include cargo nominations, vessel scheduling, shipping documentation, voyage planning, bunkering coordination, and operational record management. The incumbent will monitor and mitigate operational and contractual risks, manage claims including demurrage, support Letters of Credit processes, and ensure timely settlement follow-through. The role also requires proactive problem-solving, identification of optimisation opportunities across the value chain, and maintaining strong stakeholder relationships within a fast-paced, deadline-driven trading environment. Due to the operational nature of the business, after-office-hours support will be required when necessary.
Requirements
The ideal candidate will hold a degree in Maritime Studies, or a related discipline. Minimum 3 years of experience in cargo operations, shipping operations, within an oil major or trading house is preferred. Strong understanding of cargo operations, charter parties, Incoterms, trade documentation, and shipping processes will be advantageous. Familiarity with operational risk management, demurrage handling, and Letters of Credit is highly desirable. Candidates should possess strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to work independently in a fast-paced and high-pressure environment while managing multiple operational activities simultaneously.
