Job Description

Summary

The Trade Manager – Asia to West Africa is responsible for driving the commercial performance and profitability of the assigned trade lane. The role focuses on optimising yield utilisation through effective pricing strategies, managing agent allocations, and developing key customer relationships. The incumbent acts as a key commercial interface between HO and Asia network, identifying new business opportunities and ensuring revenue targets are met consistently.

Responsibilities

Trade Management & Pricing

  • Own pricing and contribution analysis across assigned West African countries and service strings
  • Monitor market trends, competitor activity, and rate movements to maximise yield and profitability
  • Balance vessel utilisation with optimal revenue contribution across the trade lane

Agent Performance & Allocation Management

  • Monitor and optimise agent performance against space allocations
  • Conduct regular reviews and address underperformance proactively
  • Travel to West African markets when required to support agents and assess market conditions

Customer & Commercial Development

  • Act as the primary commercial contact for selected key and regional accounts
  • Lead customer visits, rate negotiations, and service promotion initiatives
  • Identify and drive new business opportunities and qualified sales leads

Reporting & Market Intelligence

  • Prepare regular trade performance reports, market studies, and competitor analysis
  • Track economic, political, and logistics developments affecting West African markets
  • Support strategic projects and ad‑hoc initiatives led by trade leadership

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree (or higher)
  • Minimum 5 years experience in the shipping industry
  • Strong experience in pricing, trade management, or commercial analysis
  • Solid analytical capability (P&L, contribution analysis, market studies)
  • Commercially sharp with a proactive, opportunity‑driven mindset
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint); familiarity with shipping management systems
