Job Description

Key Responsibilities

Technical & Program Leadership

  • Provides direct and ongoing leadership for organizations designing, developing, and sustaining toner cartridges and related hardware across new platforms, derivatives, and legacy products.

  • Oversees engineering execution across multiple concurrent programs, ensuring alignment to Toner Supplies and Solutions (TSS) platform strategies, interface requirements with external partners, and HP business objectives.

  • Guides technical decision‑making for complex tradeoffs involving cost, yield, reliability, manufacturability, and time‑to‑market.

  • Acts as an escalation point for the most challenging cross‑functional and supplier-driven technical issues, ensuring timely resolution.

Portfolio, Resource & Execution Management

  • Manages headcount, skill mix, budgets, schedules, and deliverables across multiple teams and programs to meet roadmap commitments.

  • Ensures effective resource allocation across NPI, platform evolution, and sustaining engineering, balancing near‑term execution with long‑term capability development.

  • Partners closely with program management, operations, quality, and supply chain to ensure execution discipline across the product lifecycle.

Cross‑Functional & Executive Engagement

  • Engages regularly with senior leadership, supply chain, manufacturing, quality, finance, and executive stakeholders to:

  • Communicate program status and technical risk
  • Escalate issues with clear options and recommendations

  • Influence strategic decisions related to platform investments, cost optimization, and make‑vs‑buy strategies

  • Represents mechanical engineering perspectives in business reviews, technical reviews, and executive forums.

Supplier & Partner Leadership

  • Owns senior‑level engineering engagement with key external suppliers, setting expectations for:

  • Technical deliverables and interfaces

  • Product quality and reliability

  • Cost and yield targets

  • Development and production schedules

  • Ensures effective collaboration and communication between HP engineering teams and outsourced partners across geographies.

  • Drives joint problem‑solving and continuous improvement initiatives with suppliers.

Process Improvement & Cost Leadership

  • Identifies and leads opportunities for engineering process improvement, simplification, and standardization.

  • Drives cost‑reduction and yield‑improvement initiatives through:

  • Design optimization

  • Platform reuse

  • Manufacturing and tooling improvements

  • Supplier collaboration

  • Champions data‑driven decision‑making and best practices across teams.

People Leadership & Talent Development

  • Provides overall people‑care management for direct reports, including hiring, performance management, coaching, and career development.

  • Builds strong leadership bench strength within the team by developing managers and senior technical leads.

  • Drives a culture of accountability, technical excellence, collaboration, and continuous improvement aligned with HP values.

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's or Advanced Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline, or equivalent experience.

  • Typically 10+ years of relevant engineering experience with 8-10 years of people and organizational leadership, preferably in:

  • Hardware product development

  • High‑volume manufacturing environments

  • Platform-based product strategies

  • Supplier‑intensive development models

Knowledge & Technical Skills

  • Mechanical system and component design for high‑volume consumable products

  • Manufacturing processes (injection molding, machining, sheet metal, tooling)

  • New product development and sustaining engineering across long product lifecycles

  • Product Lifecycle Management

  • Cost, yield, and reliability optimization in production environments

  • Thermal and mechanical integration as relevant to toner systems

Cross‑Organizational Leadership Skills

  • Strategic thinking and systems leadership

  • Strong prioritization and execution discipline

  • Resilience in managing ambiguity, complexity, and external dependencies
