Role: Tester (Independent & Automation Testing Focus)
Scope of Work
The Tester will be responsible for ensuring robust quality assurance through comprehensive functional and regression testing for critical on-premise systems operating within secure environments. The role requires strict adherence to governance standards and strong documentation practices. Over time, the Tester will transition to building and scaling automated testing capabilities using enterprise automation tools, supporting the Client's cloud-first strategy and centralised automation framework.
Key Responsibilities
Design and develop modular, reusable automated test cases for priority business flows using enterprise automation tools (e.g., Tosca, Selenium, Playwright, or equivalent) Develop, maintain, and optimise automated test cases and frameworks that support long-term scalability and maintainability
Collaborate with product owners and stakeholders to define test objectives, scope, and success criteria for automation initiatives
Analyse test outcomes, identify root causes of defects, and drive resolution with cross-functional teams
Track and report automation coverage, test stability, defect trends, and quality metrics with clear, auditable artefacts to project stakeholders
Contribute to the establishment of automation best practices, coding standards, and reusable component libraries
Support the transition from local automation development to centralised cloud-based authoring environments
Maintain comprehensive documentation of automated test scripts, frameworks, and execution results.
Key Requirements
Essential Experience & Competencies:
3–5 years of practical experience in test automation or software testing with significant automation exposure
Hands-on experience with enterprise test automation tools and frameworks (e.g., Tricentis Tosca, Selenium, Playwright, Cypress, Katalon, or equivalent tools)
Strong understanding of automation best practices including modularisation, reusability, data-driven testing, and maintainability principles
Proficiency in at least one programming or scripting language (e.g., Java, Python, JavaScript, C#) for test utilities, data management, and framework development Experience with defect and issue management tools (e.g., JIRA, Azure DevOps, or equivalent)
Demonstrated ability to work within secure or restricted setups with disciplined evidence and documentation practices for compliance
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with ability to debug test failures and identify root causes
Effective communication skills for technical documentation and stakeholder reporting
Highly Desirable Qualifications:
Professional automation testing certifications (e.g., Tosca Product Consultant, ISTQB Test Automation Engineer, Selenium certifications, or equivalent)
Experience integrating automated tests in cloud environments or CI/CD pipelines Familiarity with test case management and reporting tools (e.g., TestRail, Zephyr, qTest, or equivalent)
Knowledge of performance testing concepts and tools (e.g., JMeter, LoadRunner, Gatling, or equivalent)
Experience with version control systems (e.g., Git, SVN) and collaborative development practices
Experience working in Agile methodologies and Agile team environments Background in government, public sector, or regulated industry IT projects Understanding of API testing and service virtualisation concepts.
