Job Summary
This role serves as the Technical Superintendent overseeing a fleet of ULCC/VLCC-sized FSUs and trading VLCCs, ensuring compliance, safety, and operational excellence in technical management at Johor/Kukup, Malaysian anchorages and beyond.
Responsibilities
- Ensure fleet vessels comply with Flag State, Port State, International Maritime authorities, and Class regulations to maintain operational legality and safety
- Develop and enhance the company's Safety Management System procedures to improve safety and operational standards
- Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of vessels Planned Maintenance Systems, proposing improvements for continuous operational reliability
- Approve procurement of ship spares and stores within authority limits and coordinate supplies and services to support shipboard maintenance activities
- Engage and assess service contractors to ensure quality and cost-effective technical support
- Prepare docking specifications for quotations from shipyards and subcontractors, and manage follow-up on docking and repair works
- Review management of change processes, including risk assessments for new vessel equipment and machinery to ensure safe technical operations
- Conduct risk assessments of vessels critical jobs and technical operations to mitigate operational hazards
- Monitor and propose closure of non-conformities related to critical equipment and machinery breakdowns to maintain vessel readiness
Required competencies and certifications
- Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Marine Engineering or an equivalent internationally recognized maritime/shipping qualification
- Certificate of Competency (COC) Class 1 Marine Engineer with a minimum of 2 years sailing experience as Chief Engineer or Second Engineer on Aframax oil tankers or VLCCs
- Minimum 2 years experience as a Technical Superintendent managing oil tankers with a reputable ship management or owning company
