Job Description

We are partnering with a well-established international shipping organization to appoint an experienced technical professional to oversee the safe, efficient, and compliant operation of a fleet of ocean-going vessels. This role is responsible for providing technical leadership, operational support, and consultancy expertise to ensure vessels meet all regulatory, commercial, and performance standards while maintaining high levels of reliability and service excellence.

Responsibilities

Regulatory Compliance & Vessel Readiness

  • Ensure full compliance with Class, Flag State, statutory, and charterer requirements.
  • Plan and monitor surveys, inspections, and certification schedules to maintain vessel readiness for commercial operations.
  • Support successful external inspections, audits, and vetting processes.

Technical Maintenance & Repairs

  • Oversee vessel maintenance programs, Planned Maintenance Systems (PMS), and defect rectification.
  • Provide technical troubleshooting support to vessels and shore teams.
  • Manage repairs efficiently to minimize downtime and operational disruption.

Dry Docking & Projects

  • Prepare dry dock specifications, budgets, schedules, and contractor scope of work.
  • Supervise dry docking activities to ensure completion within budget, timeline, and quality expectations.
  • Review post-drydock outcomes, close outstanding items, and implement lessons learned.

Cost & Performance Management

  • Monitor vessel operating costs including repairs, dry dock expenditure, fuel, and lubricants consumption.
  • Analyze vessel performance trends and recommend improvement initiatives.
  • Support budget planning and cost optimization across the fleet.

Procurement & Technical Support

  • Review and approve requisitions for technical stores, spares, and service requirements.
  • Ensure timely availability of critical equipment and materials for uninterrupted vessel operations.

Fleet Inspections & Commercial Support

  • Conduct vessel inspections, condition assessments, handovers, and takeover management.
  • Participate in sale & purchase inspections and technical due diligence when required.
  • Support modification, conversion, and upgrade projects to meet operational or regulatory needs.

Leadership & Crew Management

  • Coach and mentor technical executives and shipboard senior officers.
  • Conduct briefings, debriefings, and performance reviews for Masters, Chief Engineers, and key onboard personnel.
  • Work closely with crewing and marine teams to support crew welfare, engagement, and performance standards.

Requirements

  • Seagoing experience as Chief Engineer or equivalent senior technical experience ashore.
  • Proven experience as Technical Superintendent / Fleet Manager within tanker, gas, bulk, offshore, or merchant fleets.
  • Strong knowledge of Class, Flag State, ISM, vetting, and maritime regulations.
  • Experience managing dry docks, budgets, repairs, and vessel performance.
  • Strong leadership, stakeholder management, and communication skills.
