Take overall technical responsibility for assigned dual-fuel tanker vessels, ensuring safe, reliable and cost-effective operation.
Monitor vessel condition, machinery performance, maintenance standards and technical reliability.
Provide day-to-day technical guidance and support to Masters and Chief Engineers.
Ensure all planned maintenance, defect repairs and corrective actions are completed effectively and in accordance with manufacturer recommendations and company standards.
Monitor and manage the Planned Maintenance System (PMS), surveys, certificates and statutory requirements.
Conduct regular vessel inspections and follow up on technical deficiencies, maintenance requirements and inspection findings.
Plan, coordinate and supervise dry-dockings, major repairs, refits, conversions, mobilisations and in-water repairs.
Prepare repair specifications, evaluate technical quotations and coordinate with shipyards, contractors, class and vendors.
Monitor the performance and reliability of dual-fuel propulsion systems, including relevant gas-fuel systems and associated machinery.
Support troubleshooting and investigation of machinery breakdowns, technical incidents and equipment failures.
Carry out root-cause analysis and ensure effective corrective and preventive actions are implemented.
Ensure vessels maintain full compliance with Flag State, Class, IMO, ISM, MARPOL and other applicable statutory requirements.
Support preparation for and follow-up of vessel inspections, audits, vetting and external requirements applicable to tanker operations.
Manage technical procurement, ensuring timely and cost-effective supply of spares, stores, lubricants and technical services.
Prepare, monitor and control vessel technical budgets and operating expenditure, ensuring spending remains within approved limits.
Liaise closely with owners, Masters, Chief Engineers, class societies, flag authorities, suppliers, shipyards and other stakeholders.
Support emergency response for serious technical incidents involving vessels under responsibility.
Promote strong safety, environmental and technical standards across assigned vessels.
Identify opportunities for continuous improvement in vessel reliability, maintenance efficiency, fuel performance and technical management.
Requirements
Class 1 / MEO Class 1 Certificate of Competency or equivalent internationally recognised Chief Engineer qualification.
Degree/Diploma in Marine Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or a related maritime discipline.
Minimum 3 years relevant sea-going experience as Chief Engineer/Second Engineer, preferably on tanker, gas or other technically complex vessels.
Minimum 1 year sailing experience as Chief Engineer is strongly preferred.
Proven experience with dual-fuel propulsion systems is essential.
Practical knowledge of MAN B&W ME-GI and/or WinGD X-DF engines is highly advantageous.
Previous shore-based experience as a Technical Superintendent / Vessel Superintendent is preferred.
Experience managing vessels through dry-docking, major repairs, breakdowns, mobilisations and in-water repairs.
Strong knowledge of vessel maintenance, PMS, machinery systems, technical documentation and statutory/class requirements.
Familiarity with Class, Flag State, IMO and tanker-related inspection/vetting requirements.
Demonstrated experience in technical budgeting, cost control and procurement.
Good understanding of vessel performance monitoring and machinery efficiency.
Strong analytical, troubleshooting and decision-making capabilities.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with vessel crews, owners, class, vendors and internal departments.
IT literate with good working knowledge of Microsoft Office and vessel management/PMS systems.
Willingness to travel internationally for vessel visits, inspections, dry-dockings and technical projects.
Strong safety mindset, commercial awareness and ability to work independently in a fast-paced ship-management environment.
