Job Description

Role Overview

Responsible for overseeing the technical management, maintenance, and performance of assigned PCTC vessels, including dual-fuel engines, fuel-gas systems, auxiliary machinery, and other critical equipment. The role works closely with onboard engineering teams, shipyards, class societies, and service providers to ensure vessel reliability, regulatory compliance, and operational efficiency. Key responsibilities include planned maintenance, dry-docking, repairs, technical inspections, budgeting, spare-parts management, machinery performance monitoring, and implementation of corrective and preventive measures

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee the technical management and maintenance of assigned PCTC vessels.
  • Monitor dual-fuel engines, fuel-gas supply systems, auxiliary machinery and other critical equipment.
  • Work closely with Masters and Chief Engineers to resolve technical defects and operational issues.
  • Monitor planned maintenance activities and ensure timely completion of repairs.
  • Review machinery performance, fuel consumption and vessel-efficiency data.
  • Prepare and control vessel maintenance, repair and dry-docking budgets.
  • Plan and supervise dry-dockings, class surveys, major repairs and technical upgrades.
  • Prepare technical specifications and evaluate quotations from shipyards and service providers.
  • Ensure vessels comply with class, flag-state and international regulatory requirements.
  • Conduct vessel inspections and follow up on technical findings and corrective actions.
  • Investigate machinery failures and implement preventive and corrective measures.
  • Monitor critical spare parts, stores and technical requisitions.
  • Liaise with classification societies, equipment manufacturers, shipyards and regulatory authorities.
  • Support audits, inspections and emergency-response activities.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to onboard engineering personnel.
  • Prepare regular technical, budget and vessel-performance reports for management.
  • 3 -5 years of experience.

Requirements

  • Degree or Diploma in Marine Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Marine Engineer Class 1 Certificate of Competency is strongly preferred.
  • Previous sailing experience as a Chief Engineer, preferably onboard PCTC or RoRo vessels.
  • At least 3 to 5 years of shore-based experience as a Technical Superintendent or in a comparable technical-management role.
  • Strong hands-on knowledge of dual-fuel engines and associated fuel-gas systems.
  • Experience managing PCTC vessels is highly preferred.
  • Proven experience with dry-dockings, major repairs, planned maintenance and technical budgets.
  • Good knowledge of ISM, class requirements, flag-state regulations and international maritime legislation.
  • Strong troubleshooting, decision-making and cost-management capabilities.
  • Effective communication and stakeholder-management skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and vessel-management software.
  • Willing to travel and attend vessels when operationally required.
