Technical Manager
Position Overview
We are seeking experienced and motivated professionals to join our team as Technical Manager responsible for the technical management of a fleet of tankers.
This role provides strong exposure to tanker operations, oil major standards (TMSA), and regulatory compliance, with opportunities to grow into senior leadership positions within the organisation.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Management & Operations
- Manage the technical operations of assigned tanker vessels, ensuring safe, efficient, and reliable performance
- Oversee maintenance, repairs, and daily technical operations of vessels
- Ensure vessels operate in full compliance with ISM / ISPS / MLC / TMSA / USCG/ Port Authority requirements
Maintenance, Repairs & Dry Docking
- Plan and execute preventive and corrective maintenance programmes
- Manage dry docking, repairs, and modification works, including budgeting and execution
- Prepare specifications, evaluate tenders, and supervise shipyards, contractors, and vendors
Regulatory Compliance & Class
- Maintain and monitor vessel certification, surveys, and Class status
- Liaise closely with Classification Societies, Flag State, and regulatory authorities
- Ensure compliance with all statutory and industry requirements
Inspection & Vetting
- Coordinate and attend oil major inspections, vetting (TMSA), and statutory surveys
- Track inspection observations and ensure timely closure
- Maintain high standards of readiness to support commercial operations
Budgeting & Cost Control
- Manage vessel budgets covering maintenance, repairs, spares, and dry docking
- Monitor cost performance and ensure efficient use of resources
- Work closely with procurement on vendor management and cost optimisation
Incident Management & Continuous Improvement
- Conduct incident/accident investigations, including root cause analysis
- Prepare reports and implement corrective and preventive actions
- Support continuous improvement in safety, operational efficiency, and reliability
Leadership, Training & Stakeholder Management
- Lead and manage the technical team (for Manager roles) and support team coordination (for Superintendent roles)
- Provide guidance and training to vessel engineers and crew, supporting competency development
- Maintain close communication with:
- Classification Societies, shipyards, suppliers, and contractors
- Owners, charterers, and insurance stakeholders
Requirements
For Technical Manager
- Possess sea-going work experience as Marine Engineer on tankers
- Possess MOT Engineer Certification either class 1 or class 2 will be an added advantage.
- Has at least 3 years of experience and proven technical ability as technical superintendent or similar position.
- Planned maintenance system experience
- Has good organizational skills with hands-on approach in technical trouble shooting and problem solving.
- Has good interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written
- Independent and resourceful. Able to work under pressure to meet deadline.
- Ability to travel within short notice as required.
- Strong knowledge of TMSA, tanker operations, and regulatory compliance
