Plaque of Commendation (Gold) - NTUC May Day Awards 2026[What you will be working on]
Key Responsibilities:
Primary Focus: Engine Room Simulator Operations & IT Upkeep
. System Operations: Manage the daily startup, configuration, and proper shutdown of all engine room simulator hardware consoles and software packages.
. Training Execution: Load, test, and run tailored simulation exercises (e.g., marine propulsion, electrical power generation, auxiliary machinery) to support academic staff during live practical labs.
. Technical Administration: Perform routine system diagnostics, coordinate software patches/updates, maintain secure configuration backups, and troubleshoot basic network issues to maximize facility uptime.
Secondary Focus: Polyamine & Waterfront Training Support (As-Needed)
. Practical Lesson Support: Provide hands-on assistance to instructors at the Polymarina and associated workshops specifically during scheduled practical training blocks (daily presence at the marina is not required).
. Survival Craft Safety: Support and oversee the safe launching, handling, and recovery of lifeboats, fast rescue boats, and lifesaving appliances during student training modules.
. WSH Compliance: Maintain clean, organized training environments and enforce strict safety standards in full compliance with the Workplace Safety & Health (WSH) Act.
Administrative & Institutional Support
. Procurement & Inventory: Manage inventory logs, track critical spare parts, and handle procurement requests for the simulator labs and supported workshops.
. Audit Readiness: Assist the technical support team in preparing facilities and operational logs for internal and external quality audits.
. School Functions: Provide ad-hoc administrative or operational support for key institutional events (e.g., SMA Open House, Graduation).
[What we are looking for]
Requirements:
. Must hold a minimum Deck Class 5 Certificate of Competency (CoC) issued by the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) or equivalent relevant authorities.
. Minimum of four (4) years of relevant operational experience in the marine, seafaring, or engineering sector.
. A solid, practical understanding of safe launching procedures for lifeboats and fast rescue boats.
. Strong foundational comfort with PC hardware configuration, Windows environments, and basic networking to confidently administer simulation software systems.
. Good oral and written communication skills to guide students and coordinate with academic staff and external technical vendors.
. Self-driven, independent, and highly adaptable with a strong readiness to work collaboratively in a team setting.
. Passionate about maritime education, safety culture, and mentoring engineering students.
Successful candidate will be offered a 2-year contract in the first instance.
