Tech Lead - Digital (Government Linked Agency)

A digital technology department within one of the government agencies is hiring a Tech Lead. The unit is set up and operates like a well-run technology startup and the work spans some of the most critically important projects.

The Role

Lead Software Engineer/Tech Lead - You'll drive engineering direction, architect and ship features across the entire stack, and play a central role in raising the bar for how software gets built within the organisation. You'll also mentor and develop the engineers around you, which matters here as much as the code you write.

The environment is agile and collaborative.

What the Work Looks Like

You'll own technical decisions end to end - from system design through to deployment - working across a modern stack: TypeScript, React, Node.js, AWS, with strong DevOps and infrastructure-as-code practices baked in. You'll be building large-scale, highly available systems, and you'll be doing it in an environment that values engineering excellence without the noise and politics that often comes with it in large organisations.

What This Takes

You'll bring at least 10 years of relevant experience, with a minimum of five years in hands-on software development. You're comfortable across the full stack and have built and operated large-scale systems before. Secure software development, CI/CD, Git, Terraform, and cloud deployment are second nature to you.

You lead by example, you bring people with you, and you don't need a lot of hand-holding to do great work.
