We are seeking a dynamic and passionate Teacher of Geography to join our growing Senior School in August 2026. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in delivering an engaging and challenging Geography and Global Perspectives curriculum that fosters a deep understanding of both physical and human geography. They will inspire students to think critically about global issues, sustainability, and environmental responsibility.

The ideal candidate will have expertise in fieldwork, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), and inquiry-based learning. They will be responsible for teaching Geography across from Year5 preparing students for IGCSE examinations. In addition to teaching, the post-holder will contribute to the wider school community through extracurricular activities, such as geography clubs, sustainability initiatives, and field trips. They will also serve as a Form Tutor, providing pastoral care and supporting students personal and academic development.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and deliver a high-quality Geography curriculum aligned with the Cambridge International and The Perse School curriculum framework.
  • Teach Geography across a range of year groups, fostering students curiosity about the natural and human world.
  • Develop and implement lesson plans, learning materials and assessments that cater to varying levels of language proficiency.
  • Regularly provide formative and summative assessments to monitor students progress.
  • Integrate fieldwork opportunities into the curriculum, ensuring students gain hands-on experience in geographical research and data analysis.
  • Incorporate Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and digital mapping tools into teaching and learning.
  • Prepare students for external examinations, including IGCSE, for first examination in May/June 2027, delivering a well-structured and challenging course.
  • Promote environmental awareness and sustainability through engaging lessons and school-wide initiatives.
  • Support students as a Form Tutor, contributing to their pastoral care and personal development.
  • Establish strong partnerships with parents, keeping them informed of their child's progress and addressing any concerns.
  • Engage in professional development opportunities and share best practices in Geography education.
  • Contribute to extracurricular activities such as geography clubs, field trips and environmental projects.

Essential Qualifications & Experience:

  • Minimum four (4) years of teaching experience within an international school environment.
  • A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Geography or a relevant discipline, together with a recognised professional teaching qualification (e.g., PGDE, PGCE, PGCEi, NIE Diploma) or a valid Teacher Licence / QTS.
  • Strong knowledge and experience in delivering the CAIE Cambridge curriculum
  • Strong subject knowledge in both physical and human geography.
  • Experience teaching Geography to students aged 10-16, including preparation for IGCSE examinations.
  • Proven ability to design and deliver engaging, inquiry-led lessons that develop critical thinking, analytical, and evaluative skills.
  • Demonstrated commitment to inclusive and differentiated teaching practices that meet the needs of all learners, including EAL students.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, enabling effective engagement with students, parents, and colleagues.
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage teaching, tutoring, and wider school responsibilities effectively.

Desirable Skills and Personal Attributes:

  • Passion for fieldwork and experiential learning, with the ability to lead outdoor expeditions safely.
  • Proficiency in GIS and effective integration of digital tools in Geography teaching.
  • Commitment to environmental education and sustainability.
  • Familiarity with inquiry project, or concept-based learning approaches.
  • Ability to teach a second Humanities subject (e.g., History or Global Perspectives) from Year 5.
  • Contribution to curriculum development and wider Humanities initiatives.
  • Enthusiasm for co-curricular activities such as MUN, sustainability, or global citizenship programmes.
  • Strong awareness of contemporary global issues (e.g., climate change, urbanisation, geopolitics).
  • Cultural sensitivity and willingness to contribute to the wider life of the school.
