Role Overview

This is a Director / Partner level role. As the Tax Director, you will be responsible for managing and optimizing the organization's tax strategy, compliance, and planning across global jurisdictions. This role is highly specialized, requiring more than 10 years of experience in tax, deep knowledge of international tax frameworks, and expertise in cryptocurrency and blockchain taxation.

As an individual contributor, the Tax Director will work closely with major stakeholders, including finance, legal, and operations teams, to ensure tax compliance and provide strategic insights on tax-related matters.

Key Responsibilities

1. Strategic Tax Advisory

  • Provide expert guidance on global tax strategies to optimize the company's tax position while adhering to international tax laws and regulations.
  • Assess the tax implications of corporate structures, strategic investments, and cross-border transactions, with a focus on cryptocurrency and blockchain-related activities.

2. Tax Compliance and Reporting

  • Ensure timely and accurate preparation and filing of tax returns across multiple jurisdictions.
  • Collaborate with external advisors and service providers to manage tax audits and resolve disputes with tax authorities.
  • Maintain compliance with emerging international tax regulations, including digital economy taxation and cryptocurrency reporting requirements.

3. Crypto-Specific Tax Expertise

  • Analyze and interpret tax regulations affecting cryptocurrency transactions, token issuance, staking, and other digital asset-related activities.
  • Develop frameworks for tracking and reporting tax obligations specific to blockchain and cryptocurrency operations.
  • Monitor global developments in crypto taxation and advise stakeholders on regulatory changes.

4. Stakeholder Collaboration

  • Act as a key partner to finance, legal, and operations teams, aligning tax strategies with business objectives.
  • Provide clear and actionable tax advice to senior leadership and key stakeholders, ensuring informed decision-making.
  • Collaborate with external consultants, auditors, and tax advisors to support specialized tax needs.

5. Tax Risk Management

  • Identify, evaluate, and mitigate tax risks across global operations.
  • Ensure compliance with international tax frameworks, including OECD BEPS, transfer pricing regulations, and digital tax policies.
  • Maintain robust documentation and processes to support tax positions and audits.

Qualifications

Experience

  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in tax, with significant exposure to international tax frameworks.
  • Demonstrated expertise in cryptocurrency taxation, including crypto transactions, digital assets, and blockchain operations.
  • Knowledge and exposure to regulatory reporting and family office structures is a plus.

Skills

  • In-depth knowledge of global tax laws, transfer pricing, and cross-border tax planning.
  • Proven ability to analyze complex tax scenarios related to blockchain and cryptocurrency.
  • Strong stakeholder management and communication skills, with the ability to convey technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
  • Detail-oriented, highly analytical, and capable of managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Technical Knowledge

  • Familiarity with tax reporting standards (e.g., IFRS, GAAP) and tax technology tools.
  • Expertise in navigating regulatory frameworks related to digital assets, including FATF guidelines and AML compliance.

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Taxation, or a related field.
  • CPA, Chartered Accountant, or equivalent qualification preferred.
