Job Summary
We are seeking experienced Systems Specialists (Mainframe) to manage and support enterprise mainframe backup and storage infrastructure. The ideal candidate will be responsible for maintaining backup systems, tape management environments, and storage platforms while ensuring high availability, security, performance, and disaster recovery readiness across the mainframe ecosystem.
Key Responsibilities
- Administer and maintain mainframe backup systems including CA-1, CA-Disk, CA-TLMS, z/OS, and JCL environments.
- Manage tape management systems, automated tape libraries, and backup hardware platforms.
- Perform installation, configuration, patching, hardening, and upgrades of backup software and related infrastructure.
- Monitor backup operations, storage utilization, and system performance to ensure SLA compliance.
- Conduct capacity planning for backup and storage infrastructure.
- Review system logs and proactively troubleshoot hardware/software issues and backup failures.
- Work closely with vendors to resolve incidents, manage escalations, and coordinate software/hardware fixes.
- Support disaster recovery (DR) activities, technical drills, and business continuity exercises.
- Ensure operational documentation, procedures, and recovery processes are maintained and updated.
- Provide after-hours and weekend support for maintenance, upgrades, and critical incidents when required.
Required Skills & Experience
- Minimum 3–5 years of experience supporting mainframe backup and storage systems.
- Strong hands-on experience with CA-1, CA-Disk, and CA-TLMS.
- Good knowledge of z/OS operating system and JCL (Job Control Language).
- Understanding of mainframe storage concepts including DASD, tape, virtual tape, and virtual storage.
- Experience with automated tape library solutions such as IBM TS4500, Spectra Logic, or Oracle SL8500.
- Exposure to backup hardware technologies including Data Domain, ECS, Hitachi CGX, and enterprise tape libraries.
- Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills for resolving complex infrastructure issues.
- Ability to work in rotational shifts and support weekend or after-hours activities when required.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with internal teams and external vendors.
Preferred Qualifications
- Degree or Diploma in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related discipline.
- Certifications such as:
- IBM Certified System Programmer
- IBM Z System Administrator
- Vendor certifications for Data Domain or Hitachi solutions
- Knowledge of automation and scripting using REXX, CLIST, or similar technologies is an added advantage.
