What a System Quality Program Manager does at HP:
. Leads end-to-end system quality programs for Home and Office Laser printer platforms, accessories, and related solutions across development, qualification, launch, and post-launch support.
. Defines and drives quality strategy, release readiness criteria, governance models, and success metrics spanning firmware, software, cloud, connectivity, reliability, and field performance.
. Establishes scalable quality operating mechanisms, dashboards, and review cadences that enable stakeholders and senior leadership to assess program health, business risk, and release confidence.
. Partners across firmware, software, cloud, and customer support to proactively identify systemic risks and drive timely resolution.
. Reviews product architectures, design changes, validation strategies, qualification plans, and readiness criteria to ensure quality requirements are built into products and processes from the earliest phases of development.
. Leads data-driven release and qualification recommendations based on quality metrics, defect trends, validation outcomes, customer-impact assessments, and business tradeoffs.
. Drives structured problem solving and root cause analysis using methodologies such as 4DX, fishbone analysis, and fault isolation to resolve complex system-level issues and prevent recurrence.
. Leads cross-functional triage and escalation for high-risk issues across development builds, ensuring containment, corrective action, and verification of sustainable fixes.
. Shapes validation strategy, test coverage, and resource prioritization to maximize risk reduction, execution efficiency, and product readiness within compressed schedules and constrained environments.
. Collaborates with contract vendor, FW, software, cloud and program partners to improve process capability, yield, outgoing quality, supplier performance, and production readiness while balancing cost, schedule, and customer experience.
. Drives generation-to-generation quality improvement by capturing lessons learned, identifying systemic gaps, and institutionalizing preventive actions into future platforms, processes, and operating models.
. Champions adoption of automation, analytics, and data-driven quality methods that improve observability, test effectiveness, issue detection, and execution efficiency.
. Ensures compliance with quality standards, governance processes, and program management practices while influencing improvements that raise organizational quality maturity.
. Serves as a senior quality escalation point and trusted advisor to stakeholders, directors, and vice presidents on program risk, quality health, release decisions, and recovery strategy.
. Mentors less-experienced team members and helps strengthen organizational capability in quality planning, risk management, cross-functional execution, and program leadership.
Education & Experience Recommended
. Four-year or Graduate Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, Information Technology, or any other related discipline or commensurate work experience or demonstrated competence.
. Typically has 7-10 years of work experience, preferably in system quality assurance, test harnesses and QA focused tools, or a related field.
. Experience working across contract vendor, program and cross-functional development environments is highly desirable.
. Experience influencing senior leaders and driving decisions across organizations without direct authority is highly desirable.
