Job Description

Principle Accountabilities

Strategic Leadership & Market Development

  • Develop and execute the regional business development strategy aligned with corporate growth objectives
  • Identify, assess, and prioritize acquisition, farm-in, and partnership opportunities in post-mature upstream assets
  • Maintain a strong understanding of Southeast Asia energy markets, regulatory environments, and competitive landscape
  • Provide market intelligence and strategic insights to executive leadership

Deal Origination & Execution

  • Originate and lead end-to-end deal processes including screening, valuation, negotiation, and closing
  • Structure commercial agreements (e.g., farm-ins, JVs, PSCs, asset acquisitions/divestments)
  • Lead preparation of investment cases and present to internal investment committees
  • Ensure all deals meet financial, operational, and risk thresholds

Relationship Management & Networking

  • Build and maintain senior-level relationships with Oil Companies, regulators, government stakeholders and financial institutions and advisors
  • Represent the company at key industry forums, conferences, and negotiations
  • Leverage network to access proprietary and off-market opportunities

Commercial & Technical Collaboration

  • Work closely with subsurface, engineering, operations, and finance teams to evaluate opportunities
  • Integrate technical, commercial, and ESG considerations into deal-making
  • Drive cross-functional alignment during due diligence and execution phases

Business Planning & Portfolio Management

  • Lead regional business planning and portfolio optimization efforts
  • Monitor performance of acquired assets against investment cases
  • Identify value enhancement and exit opportunities

Leadership & Team Development

  • Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and commercial excellence
  • Establish best practices for BD processes, governance, and reporting

Required Experience

  • 15+ years of experience in upstream oil & gas, with significant exposure to Southeast Asia
  • Proven track record in originating and executing upstream deals (M&A, farm-ins, partnerships)
  • Experience working with post-mature or late-life assets is highly preferred
  • Prior leadership experience in business development or commercial roles

  • Strong knowledge of Southeast Asia regulatory frameworks, fiscal regimes, and stakeholders
  • Awareness of energy transition trends and their impact on upstream portfolios

Commercial & Financial Acumen

  • Strong capability in asset valuation, economic modelling, and deal structuring
  • Experience developing and presenting investment cases at executive level
  • Ability to balance risk, return, and strategic fit

Relationship & Influence

  • Established network of senior industry relationships across the region
  • Strong negotiation and influencing skills at executive and government levels
  • Ability to build trust and credibility quickly

Leadership & Execution

  • Demonstrated ability to lead complex, multi-stakeholder deal processes
  • Strong project management and organizational skills
  • Ability to operate effectively in ambiguous and dynamic environments

Communication & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Proven ability to develop high-quality pitch materials, RFIs, and RFP responses
  • Ability to articulate complex technical and commercial concepts clearly
