JOB DESCRIPTION
- Supervise and monitor day-to-day vehicle upper-body fabrication, modification, and customization works, ensuring projects are completed according to approved specifications, drawings, quality standards, and timelines.
- Oversee customization works for commercial vehicles, including box bodies, cargo bodies, canopies, compartments, racks, platforms, tailgates and other vehicle body structures.
- Review job requirements, technical drawings, measurements, specifications, and customization requests before commencement of work.
- Coordinate and assign work to technicians, welders, fabricators and other workshop personnel according to project requirements and manpower availability.
- Monitor fabrication, welding, cutting, fitting, assembly and installation works throughout each stage of the customization process.
- Conduct measurements and inspections to ensure the completed body structure, dimensions, alignment, finishing and installation meet required specifications.
- Identify technical or workmanship issues during fabrication and work closely with the relevant team to implement corrective actions.
- Ensure materials, parts and components required for customization projects are properly planned and available to avoid project delays.
- Coordinate with internal departments, customers, suppliers and external contractors where necessary regarding customization requirements and project progress.
- Conduct final quality inspections before vehicle handover and ensure all outstanding rectification works are completed.
- Ensure tools, machinery and workshop equipment are properly used and maintained.
- Guide and supervise workshop personnel to maintain productivity, workmanship and safety standards.
- Perform any other workshop, fabrication, vehicle customization or operational duties assigned by the Reporting Manager or Management.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
- Minimum 3-5 years of relevant experience in commercial vehicle body fabrication, vehicle customization, engineering workshop, metal fabrication or a related field.
- Prior supervisory or team-leading experience in a workshop/fabrication environment is preferred.
- Strong hands-on knowledge of commercial vehicle upper-body structures and customization, including box bodies, cargo bodies, canopies, compartments, platforms, tailgates and other customized structures.
- Good understanding of metal fabrication, welding, cutting, fitting, assembly and installation processes.
- Able to read and understand technical drawings, specifications and measurements and ensure fabrication works are carried out accordingly.
- Able to supervise technicians, welders and fabricators and effectively plan manpower and monitor work progress.
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to identify workmanship, dimensional, structural and installation issues.
- Able to work in a fast-paced workshop environment and manage multiple customization projects simultaneously.
