Job Summary

The Operations Supervisor plays a critical role in managing and overseeing the daily operations of the metals recycling facility. The position requires strong leadership, operational planning, safety management, manpower supervision, inventory control, and coordination of metal collection, sorting, processing, and delivery activities.

The Supervisor is responsible for ensuring productivity targets are achieved while maintaining strict compliance with workplace safety, environmental regulations, and company operational standards.

Key Responsibilities

Operations Management

  • Supervise daily recycling operations, including collection, sorting, grading, processing, storage, and dispatch of ferrous and non-ferrous metals.
  • Plan and coordinate workflow to maximize operational efficiency and productivity.
  • Monitor inventory movement and stock levels of recycled metals.
  • Ensure proper segregation and classification of scrap materials.
  • Coordinate loading and unloading activities for incoming and outgoing shipments.
  • Monitor equipment utilization and operational performance.

Manpower Supervision

  • Lead, supervise, and allocate duties to workers, drivers, forklift operators, and yard personnel.
  • Conduct daily work briefings and toolbox meetings.
  • Monitor attendance, productivity, and discipline of employees.
  • Train workers on operational procedures, safety requirements, and company policies.
  • Evaluate staff performance and recommend improvements where necessary.

Workplace Safety & Compliance

  • Enforce strict compliance with Workplace Safety and Health (WSH) regulations.
  • Conduct regular safety inspections of the yard, warehouse, machinery, and work processes.
  • Identify potential workplace hazards and implement corrective actions immediately.
  • Ensure proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Investigate accidents, incidents, and near-miss cases and prepare reports.
  • Maintain compliance with environmental and recycling regulations.

Logistics & Fleet Coordination

  • Coordinate transportation schedules and delivery routes.
  • Supervise drivers and vehicle operations.
  • Ensure timely collection and delivery of recyclable materials.
  • Monitor vehicle maintenance schedules and operational readiness.

Inventory & Quality Control

  • Verify incoming and outgoing metal quantities and specifications.
  • Ensure accurate weighing, recording, and documentation of materials.
  • Monitor stock accuracy and prevent material losses.
  • Maintain proper inventory records and operational reports.

Equipment & Facility Management

  • Oversee the safe operation of forklifts, cranes, balers, cutting machines, and other recycling equipment.
  • Coordinate equipment maintenance and repair schedules.
  • Ensure operational equipment remains in safe working condition.

Administrative Responsibilities

  • Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly operational reports.
  • Maintain records relating to inventory, manpower, vehicle movements, and production activities.
  • Liaise with suppliers, contractors, customers, and government authorities when required.
  • Assist management in implementing operational improvement initiatives.

Requirements

Experience

  • Minimum 3-5 years of supervisory experience in metals recycling, waste management, logistics, warehouse operations, manufacturing, or related industries.
  • Experience managing large operational teams in an industrial environment is preferred.

Technical Knowledge

  • Knowledge of ferrous and non-ferrous metal classifications.
  • Familiarity with scrap processing operations and inventory control.
  • Understanding of workplace safety regulations and risk management practices.
  • Knowledge of logistics and fleet coordination.

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong leadership and manpower management skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced operational environment.

Physical Requirements

  • Able to work in outdoor and industrial yard environments.
  • Able to walk, stand, and supervise operations for extended periods.
  • Comfortable working around heavy machinery, scrap materials, and moving vehicles.
  • Able to conduct site inspections and operational checks throughout the facility.

Critical Responsibilities

The Operations Supervisor holds direct responsibility for:

  • Workplace safety and accident prevention.
  • Operational efficiency and productivity targets.
  • Proper handling and storage of recyclable metals.
  • Compliance with environmental and regulatory requirements.
  • Manpower discipline and performance management.
  • Prevention of theft, material loss, and operational misconduct.

Failure to properly discharge these responsibilities may result in operational disruptions, financial losses, workplace incidents, regulatory breaches, and disciplinary action.

Reporting To

Operations Manager / General Manager

Other Duties

The Employee shall perform any other duties reasonably assigned by Management in relation to the Company's recycling and operational activities.
