Job Purpose:
The Strength & Conditioning (S&C) Coach is responsible for designing, implementing and monitoring evidence-based physical preparation programmes for combat sport athletes across multiple National Sports Associations (NSAs) housed within the Singapore Combat Sports Centre (SCSC).
The role supports athletes from youth development to elite levels, ensuring systematic progression aligned with the Athlete Categorisation Framework (ACF) and long-term athlete development principles. The S&C Coach will work collaboratively with Head Coaches, Technical Directors, medical practitioners and Sport Science support from HPSI to optimise performance outcomes and reduce injury risk.
Key Duties / Responsibilities:
1. Programme Design & Implementation
- Develop periodised strength, power, speed, agility, endurance and mobility programmes specific to combat sports.
- Individualise programmes based on athlete level (Development, National, Elite).
- Integrate sport-specific demands (grappling, striking, weight management, tournament cycles).
2. Performance Monitoring & Data Tracking
- Conduct physical testing (e.g. strength benchmarks, jump testing, conditioning metrics).
- Maintain athlete performance database and progress reports.
- Track workload and recovery to prevent overtraining and injury.
3. Competition & High-Performance Support
- Align S&C planning with competition calendars (SEA Games, Asian Championships, etc.).
- Support peaking strategies and tapering protocols.
- Provide on-site support during training camps when required.
4. Injury Prevention & Athlete Welfare
- Implement injury prevention protocols tailored to combat sports.
- Collaborate with physiotherapists and medical professionals on return-to-play programmes.
- Educate athletes on recovery, sleep, nutrition fundamentals and load management.
5. Facility & Equipment Management
- Ensure safe usage of gym equipment within SCSC.
- Maintain professional standards and operational safety in the training environment.
- Contribute to procurement planning for S&C equipment where required.
6. Collaboration & Reporting
- Work closely with NSA coaches to align technical and physical development.
- Provide quarterly performance updates to SCSC Management.
- Contribute to high-performance planning and strategic reviews.

This individual should be a sport advocate through living an active lifestyle and staying active. The ideal candidate should possess the following:
. Background in Exercise Science, Human Movement, or a related field
. Strength and Conditioning certification by either ASCA, CSCCs, NSCA, UKSCA
. Strong theoretical foundation in periodisation, training adaptations, performance testing, strength and conditioning, biomechanics and exercise physiology within high-performance sport environments
. Proficiency in the coaching and teaching of exercise and human movement including free weights, weightlifting (both Olympic and general) sprinting, jumping and agility drills
. Ability to perform movement analysis (both qualitative and quantitative) to inform coaching practice.
. Proficiency in conducting and interpreting physical performance and capacity tests, including IMTP, 1RM, MAS, Agility, beep test, and Yo-Yo testing
. Strong ability to identify physical performance limiting factors and link analytical findings to practical training and performance recommendations

- Demonstrate personal integrity, honesty, respect, and show an ability to handle pressure and stress in an appropriate manner

- Must be able to form effective working relationships with the Head National Coaches, athletes, the Federation and other stakeholders
