Storage Backup Administrator - Contract

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Backup Administrator to manage and maintain our enterprise backup infrastructure and VMware virtualization environment. This role is critical to ensuring data protection, disaster recovery readiness, and business continuity across our organization.

Key Responsibilities

Virtualization & Infrastructure Management

. Administer and maintain VMware environments and hypervisor infrastructure

. Manage ATL (Automated Tape Library) and VTL (Virtual Tape Library) systems

. Oversee storage pool configuration and optimization

Backup Systems Administration

. Install, configure, and maintain enterprise backup tools including TSM, HP Data Protector, and NetBackup

. Deploy and configure backup agents (TDP for Oracle, SQL, and Exchange)

. Manage backup client software across the enterprise

. Add and delete backup clients following established procedures

Monitoring & Troubleshooting

. Proactively monitor backup tools, libraries, and infrastructure for issues

. Troubleshoot and resolve backup failures, library malfunctions, and infrastructure problems

. Coordinate with hardware and software vendors for issue resolution

. Manage and resolve backup-related tickets in a timely manner

Policy & Compliance Management

. Develop and maintain backup policies aligned with business requirements

. Manage backup scheduling to minimize impact on production systems

. Conduct periodic media and backup audits

. Ensure compliance with data retention and protection standards

Media & Tape Management

. Oversee backup inventory and media management

. Maintain appropriate scratch tape levels and perform space reclamation

. Execute tape vaulting procedures for offsite storage

. Perform manual drive cleaning as needed

Disaster Recovery & Testing

. Participate in DR planning and management activities

. Fulfill restore requests efficiently and accurately

. Conduct periodic restoration tests to validate backup integrity

. Document and maintain DR procedures

Capacity Planning & Reporting

. Monitor and manage backup infrastructure capacity

. Perform performance tuning and optimization

. Manage software licenses and renewals

. Generate daily, weekly, and monthly backup reports per client requirements

Required Qualifications

Technical Skills

. Proven experience with enterprise backup solutions (TSM, HP Data Protector, NetBackup)

. Strong knowledge of VMware administration and hypervisor management

. Experience with database backup agents (Oracle TDP, SQL, Exchange)

. Understanding of tape library systems (ATL/VTL)

. Familiarity with storage management and capacity planning

. Excellent vendor management and coordination skills

. Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities

. Strong documentation and reporting capabilities

. Customer service orientation for restore request fulfillment

Preferred Qualifications

. Relevant certifications (VMware VCP, Veritas NetBackup, IBM TSM, etc.)

. Experience with disaster recovery planning and execution

. Knowledge of compliance and regulatory requirements for data protection

. Scripting skills for automation (PowerShell, Shell, Python)
