About the Role
We are looking for a highly skilled Sr. Software Engineer - Healthcare Systems to join our Healthcare Information Exchange (HIE) platform team. This role is hands-on and delivery-focused, with strong ownership of complex integrations, interoperability workflows, and performance-critical healthcare systems.
You will work closely with architects, analysts, and cross-functional teams to design, build, and optimise secure, scalable, and standards-compliant clinical data integrations that support analytics, reporting, and future AI/ML initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
Software Development & Integration
- Design, develop, test, and maintain high-volume, mission-critical healthcare integrations and workflows.
- Implement and enhance interoperability solutions using HL7 V2, CDA/CCDA, IHE profiles, and FHIR standards.
- Develop integration logic using ObjectScript, DTL, XSLT, and BPL within the Interoperability Production environment.
- Build robust data transformations and routing logic to harmonise clinical data within the SDA structure.
Platform & Performance Engineering
- Optimise system performance, reliability, and scalability for large-scale clinical data processing.
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex integration, data, and performance issues in production and non-production environments.
- Work closely with infrastructure teams on deployments across on-premise, cloud, or hybrid environments.
- Ensure integrations meet high availability, fault tolerance, and security requirements.
Standards, Security & Compliance
- Adhere to established development, configuration, and security standards.
- Implement secure handling of healthcare data, including authentication, authorization, consent management, and data masking/filtering.
- Support the adoption and migration to modern interoperability standards, particularly FHIR.
Collaboration & Technical Leadership
- Collaborate with business analysts and stakeholders to translate clinical and business requirements into technical solutions.
- Participate in code reviews and technical design discussions, contributing to continuous improvement and quality.
- Provide guidance and mentoring to junior developers where required.
- Contribute to project estimation, planning, and technical risk identification.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- 7–10+ years of experience in software development, with strong exposure to Healthcare IT or integration platforms
- Hands-on experience working within an HIE (Health Information Exchange) ecosystem
- Strong expertise in healthcare interoperability standards:
- HL7 V2
- CDA / CCDA
- IHE profiles
- FHIR (implementation experience preferred)
- Solid experience in developing and supporting high-throughput integration environments
- Strong understanding of database concepts, data modeling, and performance optimisation (globals, indexing)
- Experience working in cloud environments (AWS, Azure, or GCP) is an advantage
- Proficiency in troubleshooting complex production issues end-to-end
- Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Health Informatics, or a related technical field
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with analytics platforms, reporting, or data warehousing in healthcare
- Exposure to DevOps tools and practices (Git, GitLab/GitHub, CI/CD pipelines)
- Prior experience supporting population health, clinical analytics, or AI/ML-enabled healthcare platforms
- Relevant healthcare or integration certifications
