Job Summary
We are seeking a hands-on and creative Sous Chef to support our Head Chef in managing kitchen operations. You will lead food preparation, uphold quality standards, and mentor the team to deliver exceptional dining experiences in a fast-paced environment.
Responsibilities
Kitchen Operations & Quality Control
- Oversee daily preparation and presentation of all menu items to ensure consistency, portion control, and adherence to caf quality standards
- Evaluate dishes for taste, texture, and appearance to maintain high culinary standards
- Collaborate in developing new menu items and seasonal specials to enhance the menu offering
- Implement food waste reduction and cost-saving measures aligned with budget objectives
Team Management & Training
- Supervise, train, and mentor junior kitchen staff and commis chefs to build team capability and performance
- Delegate tasks efficiently during service to maintain smooth kitchen workflow and timely order delivery
- Cultivate a positive, respectful, and disciplined kitchen culture that supports team engagement
- Assist in rostering and managing shift changes to optimize staffing levels
Inventory & Hygiene
- Manage stock levels, conduct monthly inventory audits, and coordinate supplier orders to ensure kitchen readiness
- Enforce full compliance with NEA (National Environment Agency) sanitary and hygiene regulations to maintain food safety standards
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe kitchen environment at all times to support operational excellence
Preferred competencies and qualifications
- Diploma or Certificate in Culinary Arts from a recognized institution (e.g., SHATEC, At-Sunrice)
- Minimum 2-3 years of experience as a Sous Chef or Senior Chef de Partie in a reputable caf or Western bistro
- Strong knowledge of Western brunch cuisine including Eggs Benedict, big breakfast, pastas, sandwiches, and desserts
- Proficiency in kitchen costing, inventory management, and portion control
- Ability to work effectively under pressure during peak hours with a strong sense of urgency
- Excellent communication skills and a collaborative team player mindset

- Salary Range: SGD $3,200 - $4,000 per month
