About the RoleRhino Partners is looking for a Software Engineer to support the delivery of engineering capabilities for a range of strategic Ministry initiatives. You will play a key role in designing, building and maintaining secure, scalable, and production-ready applications, platforms, APIs and cloud infrastructure that support critical government digital services.
Working across the full software development lifecycle, you will transform solution architecture into robust production systems while collaborating with architects, engineers, product owners and stakeholders to modernise enterprise platforms. This role offers exposure to cloud-native development, infrastructure automation, backend and frontend engineering, and secure software delivery within a highly regulated government environment.
What You'll Be Doing- Design, develop and maintain enterprise-grade full stack applications, APIs, integrations and cloud-native services supporting mission-critical government systems.
- Translate high-level solution architectures into scalable, secure and maintainable production implementations across backend, frontend and cloud environments.
- Develop and enhance backend services using technologies such as C#, Java, Node.js or equivalent modern frameworks.
- Build responsive frontend applications using React, Vue.js, JavaScript, CSS and related web technologies.
- Design, develop and integrate RESTful APIs, microservices and event-driven solutions to enable seamless system interoperability.
- Develop and maintain AWS cloud infrastructure using Infrastructure as Code (Terraform), supporting scalable and resilient application deployments.
- Build and support serverless workloads including AWS Lambda, alongside core AWS services such as EC2, RDS and related cloud infrastructure.
- Implement and optimise CI/CD pipelines using GitLab, automating build, testing, deployment and release processes.
- Administer and support web hosting environments including IIS, Apache or equivalent web server technologies.
- Design and optimise SQL databases, ensuring performance, reliability and data integrity across enterprise applications.
- Implement secure software engineering practices including authentication, authorisation, encryption, audit logging and compliance controls.
- Participate in code reviews, technical design discussions and engineering best practices to improve software quality, maintainability and operational excellence.
- Troubleshoot production issues, optimise application performance and provide ongoing support for mission-critical systems.
- Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to deliver secure, scalable and high-quality digital solutions that support evolving ministry business initiatives.
What We're Looking For- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology or a related discipline.
- At least 5 years of experience in full stack software engineering within enterprise environments.
- Strong proficiency in backend development using C#, Java, Node.js or similar technologies.
- Strong frontend development experience using React, Vue.js, JavaScript, CSS, HTML5 or equivalent frameworks.
- Hands-on experience developing cloud-native applications on AWS, including EC2, RDS, Lambda and serverless services.
- Experience implementing Infrastructure as Code using Terraform or similar technologies.
- Experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines using GitLab.
- Good understanding of RESTful API design, microservices architecture and event-driven systems.
- Experience working with SQL databases and data modelling.
- Familiarity with IIS, Apache or equivalent web server technologies.
- Good understanding of software security principles including authentication, authorisation, encryption and audit logging.
- Experience delivering solutions within regulated or security-sensitive environments is highly advantageous.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting and problem-solving skills with the ability to balance technical excellence against business priorities.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to work effectively across multidisciplinary teams.
