Role Overview
Reporting to the Technical Director, the Software Development Project Director will provide end-to-end delivery governance for large-scale software development and digital transformation programs. The role will own delivery performance, customer satisfaction, financial outcomes, risk management, and leadership of large cross-functional delivery teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Project Delivery & Continuous Improvement
- Lead and govern end-to-end delivery of complex software development and IT modernization programs, ensuring adherence to quality, budget, timeline, and contractual commitments.
- Validate delivery plans, resource strategy, commercial assumptions, and project commitments in collaboration with project and delivery managers.
- Oversee program governance through executive steering committees, delivery reviews, and performance dashboards.
- Drive SLA/KPI adherence, delivery excellence, continuous improvement, and corrective action plans where required.
- Identify, assess, and mitigate program risks, dependencies, and escalations across delivery workstreams.
- Own financial management including budget tracking, profitability, margin protection, forecasting, cost optimization, and change request governance.
- Team Leadership & Stakeholder Management
- Lead and govern large-scale delivery organizations of 80-120+ FTEs, including developers, architects, testers, DevOps engineers, project managers, and technical leads.
- Drive alignment between client business objectives, delivery roadmap, solution strategy, and committed outcomes.
- Participate in staffing strategy, recruitment, onboarding, pyramid shaping, capability development, and succession planning.
- Build delivery leadership capability by coaching Project Managers, Delivery Managers, Scrum Masters, and technical leaders.
- Act as the senior client interface for delivery governance, executive communication, issue resolution, and long-term relationship management.
- Strategic Contributions
- Support RFP/RFQ responses, bid proposals, solution shaping, estimation validation, and commercial reviews.
- Contribute to account growth by identifying delivery-led expansion opportunities and supporting customer roadmap discussions.
- Provide strategic oversight for technical delivery decisions on complex programs such as cloud migration, legacy modernization, application maintenance, and digital transformation.
- Drive standardized delivery practices, governance models, and reusable delivery assets across the Structured Projects Division.
Education
Profile & Qualifications
- Master's degree in computer science, Engineering, or equivalent.
Experience
- 12-15+ years of overall IT/software delivery experience, including 5+ years leading large-scale programs or delivery organizations.
- Proven experience managing multi-disciplinary teams of 50+ FTEs; experience with 80-120+ FTE delivery organizations preferred.
- Experience in software development delivery across SDLC, Agile/SAFe, DevOps, cloud, application modernization, or IT infrastructure programs.
Skills
- Strong program governance, financial acumen, contract management, and P&L/margin management capability.
- Experience with offshore-onsite/global delivery models and large stakeholder ecosystems.
- Strong understanding of Agile/SAFe, DevOps, ITIL, CI/CD, software architecture, microservices, and APIs.
- Excellent executive communication, customer escalation management, risk management, and decision-making skills.
- Ability to operate effectively in fast-paced, complex, multi-client or multi-program environments.
Preferred / Nice To Have
- Certifications such as PMP, PgMP, PRINCE2, SAFe Agilist/SPC, or ITIL Foundation/Managing Professional.
- Experience in regulated or engineering-intensive industries such as aerospace, defense, automotive, industrial manufacturing, or energy.
- Experience in Engineering Services, Product Engineering, or Digital Transformation programs.
