JOB OVERVIEW
The SAM Lead is responsible for managing the organisation's software and SaaS licensing portfolio to ensure cost efficiency, compliance, and optimal usage of all software assets.
This role focuses on the operational and financial lifecycle of software licenses, including SaaS subscriptions and on-premise software. You will ensure the organisation only pays for what is used, remains compliant with licensing agreements, and continuously optimises software spend.
You will work closely with IT, Finance, and Procurement teams to manage software renewals, track license usage, and reduce unnecessary software costs.
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Software Asset & License Management
- Maintain a complete and accurate inventory of all software licenses and SaaS subscriptions
- Track license allocation, usage, renewals, and expiries
- Ensure software compliance with vendor licensing agreements (EULA, SaaS terms)
- Manage user provisioning and de-provisioning for SaaS tools (e.g. Microsoft 365, Zoom, Adobe, etc.)
2. Cost Optimisation & Budget Control
- Monitor and track software spend against approved budget
- Identify unused, underutilised, or duplicate software licenses (license harvesting)
- Support Finance in forecasting annual software renewal costs
- Drive cost-saving initiatives through license optimisation and consolidation
3. Vendor & Renewal Management
- Manage software renewals and subscription negotiations
- Work with Procurement to compare pricing and licensing models
- Support vendor consolidation efforts to reduce overlapping tools
- Provide usage data to support negotiation of better commercial terms
4. Reporting & Governance
- Maintain a single source of truth for all software assets

5. Operational Support
- Support SaaS administration (license assignment, seat tracking, access control)
- Work with IT teams on onboarding/offboarding license processes
- Ensure proper documentation of all software assets and contracts
REQUIREMENTS
Must Have
- 3-7 years experience in Software Asset Management, IT Procurement, IT Operations, or SaaS administration
- Hands-on experience with SaaS tools and license management (e.g. Microsoft 365, Adobe, Zoom, Salesforce, etc.)
- Strong understanding of software licensing models (subscription, per-seat, true-up, enterprise agreements)
- Experience working with Finance or Procurement teams on IT spend tracking
- Strong Excel skills (pivot tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, reporting dashboards)
Good to Have
- Experience using SAM tools (e.g. ServiceNow SAM, Flexera, Snow Software)
- ITIL Foundation or SAM-related certifications
- Experience in cost optimisation or IT budget control
- Exposure to cloud SaaS environments
