Company Description New Hope Community Services Limited (New Hope) was established in 2004 in Singapore after its founder began providing refuge to individuals experiencing homelessness. Today, New Hope operates three transitional shelters and offers a range of services and programs that support clients in breaking out of the poverty cycle and building long-term financial resilience and independence. The organisation is committed to serving displaced and disadvantaged community members with dignity and respect. Guided by its vision to be a beacon of new hope and its mission to restore hope to those it serves, New Hope provides a supportive environment for both clients and team members.

Roles & Responsibilities

Job Summary 

As a Social Worker at New Hope Community Services Limited, you will play a vital role in driving our mission to bring change into the lives of the displaced and disadvantaged in our community. Your responsibilities will include conducting intake assessments, providing counselling and support, and facilitating access to external resources and services. The Social Worker works collaboratively with our dedicated cross-functional teams, community partners, and stakeholders, to be a Beacon of New Hope to the displaced and disadvantaged in our community. 

Key Responsibilities    

Casework 

a. Engagement & Assessment 

  • Develop professional & engaged relationships with clients and other key service stakeholders (e.g., Family Service Centres (FSCs), Social Service Offices (SSOs), Ministry of Social and Family Development (MSF), etc)   
  • Conduct case management sessions for all assigned clients as per the service model requirements.   
  • Conduct intake assessment, needs assessment, and risk assessment for complex cases and refer to the relevant agencies for intensive case management.    
  • Co-manage complex cases with the relevant agencies on a regular basis.    

b. Case Review & Documentation 

  • Prepare social reports/ case recordings in accordance with the requirements of New Hope and ensure documentation is in place.    
  • Ensure the database is timely updated.     
  • Consistently collect relevant documents from clients to prepare for submission to the funder at the end of the contract period.    
  • Meet the dateline for submission of reports.    
  • Ensure files are adequately prepared for audit by the funder.    
  • Be present for the annual audit by the funder.    

c. Goal Setting and Intervention Plans 

  • Work closely with clients and set goals during mentoring sessions. Upon the next session, follow up and review the goals set.    
  • Participate in case conferences as part of a multi-disciplinary team for complex cases.   

d. Supervision 

  • Attend individual and group supervision as scheduled regularly.    
  • Meet the supervision hours required by the funder.    

Group Work 

  • Conduct support group sessions on a quarterly basis either during weekday evenings and/or or weekends.   
  • Formulate, plan, and deliver sessions for clients with similar issues.   
  • Conduct yearly needs analysis to assess the needs of clients.    

Community Work / Outreach / Events for Clients 

  • Conduct community outreach to assigned clients at least twice in the contract period as arranged.    
  • Plan and prepare the list of families for the outreach.    
  • Attend events organized for clients during weekends and/or weekday evenings e.g., Family Retreats   
  • Formulate, plan, and deliver training for clients.   
  • Attend training organized for clients either during weekdays evenings or weekends.    
  • Create a bi-monthly e-newsletter for clients.    
  • Attend year-end events for clients.   
  • Take initiative to lead and manage projects from planning to execution, ensuring effective coordination and outcomes aligned with programme goals. 

Others 

  • Any other related duties in New Hope as assigned by the Reporting Officer. 
Accountability 
  • Reports to Senior Social Worker and Director of Social Work 
Competency Requirements 

Core Competencies 

  • Communication: Excellent interpersonal and communication skills for effective communication with residents, team, community partners, and stakeholders. 
  • Leadership: Excellent team player with strong leadership and responsibility skills. 
  • Adaptability: Strong team player who is resourceful, adaptable, and able to perform multitasks under a given timeline. 
  • Collaboration: Willing to work with the homeless and destitute. Able to handle shelter residents politely yet firmly. 
  • Understands the principles of engaging and working with vulnerable families and individuals. 
  • Case management and casework knowledge and skills. 
  • Risk assessment and risk management. 
  • Good report writing skills. 
  • Self-motivated individual with the ability to work independently. 

Technical Competencies 

  • Proficiency in IT Systems and Microsoft Office Suite (e.g., Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.). 
Education and Experience 
  • Degree in Social Work from an accredited institution 
  • Accredited as Registered Social Worker with SASW 
  • At least 2 years of relevant working experience in similar sectors
