Site Manager Responsibilities - Underground Pipelaying (Sewer, Water, Electrical, Telecom)
1. Site Supervision & Daily Management
- Oversee daily site activities for trenching, pipe laying, conduit installation, and backfilling.
- Supervise site crews, subcontractors, and equipment operators to ensure work is performed safely and efficiently.
- Monitor adherence to construction drawings, specifications, and project schedule.
2. Coordination of Trades & Utilities
- Coordinate multiple utility installations (sewer, water, electrical, telecom) to avoid conflicts and rework.
- Sequence work to ensure proper installation order and minimize disruption.
- Liaise with utility companies for inspections, tie-ins, and service connections.
3. Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE) Compliance
- Enforce strict compliance with safety regulations (e.g., OSHA) and internal safety procedures.
- Conduct daily toolbox talks and site safety inspections.
- Ensure trench safety (shoring, shielding, sloping), safe use of machinery, and safe handling of materials.
4. Quality Control
- Ensure all installations meet quality standards, including pipe bedding, alignment, compaction, and jointing.
- Conduct or supervise inspections and tests such as pressure testing, mandrel testing, or CCTV surveys.
- Identify and correct non-conformities or defects during construction.
5. Resource Management
- Manage site materials, tools, and equipment, ensuring timely delivery and availability.
- Monitor labor and equipment productivity to optimize efficiency.
- Approve timesheets and coordinate workforce deployment.
6. Communication & Reporting
- Report daily progress, issues, and delays to the Project Manager or Engineer.
- Maintain accurate site records: daily logs, test results, photos, and permit documents.
- Facilitate regular site meetings with crews, subcontractors, and inspectors.
7. Problem Solving & Issue Resolution
- Address technical or logistical issues on-site quickly to minimize delays.
- Adjust schedules and crew assignments as needed to accommodate changes or emergencies.
- Coordinate with surveyors and engineers for on-site clarifications and rework.
8. Permit & Inspection Coordination
- Ensure required permits and approvals are available on-site.
- Arrange and facilitate inspections by municipal authorities and utility agencies.
- Support compliance with environmental and traffic control regulations.
