About the Role
The Short-Term Optimiser/Trader is responsible for executing spot and short-term LNG/Gas deals and optimising the GasCo's portfolio to maximise commercial value. This role involves monitoring supply-demand positions, performing buy/sell transactions, and supporting trading and scheduling activities to ensure a balanced and cost-efficient portfolio.
Responsibilities
Short-Term Trading & Execution
- Execute spot and short-term LNG/Gas transactions, including purchases, sales, and swaps, aligned with downstream procurement and trading strategies.
- Collaboratively devise and implement short-term strategies to leverage market opportunities and manage risk efficiently.
- Establish and nurture strategic trading relationships with a diverse array of counterparties, fostering potential for enduring partnerships.
- Negotiate contracts, terms, and pricing structures to secure advantageous trade agreements, including Master Sale and Purchase Agreements (MSPAs) and other contractual arrangements.
- Work closely with downstream and operations team, engage with internal teams, including risk management, operations, legal, and finance, to ensure efficient and flawless trade execution and settlement.
Portfolio Optimisation
- Track daily portfolio positions and exposures to ensure a balanced and cost-effective supply portfolio.
- Optimise cargo flows, vessel utilisation, contract flexibility, and storage utilisation to reduce costs and enhance portfolio value.
- Identify and execute optimization opportunities such as diversions, swaps, and reloads.
- Coordinate closely with cross-functional teams to ensure efficient and compliant delivery of cargoes.
- Liaise with counterparties, terminals, and internal stakeholders to align on scheduling and operational matters.
Market Monitoring & Reporting
- Dissect market trends, supply-demand dynamics, and geopolitical factors and monitor competitor activities to support informed and effective trading decisions.
- Prepare short-term portfolio performance reports and present findings to the Head of Short-Term Origination/Optimisation.
- Support post-deals reviews and P&L analysis to identify optimisation opportunities.
Stakeholder Collaboration
- Liaise with cross-functional teams like Risk and Finance teams to ensure compliance with credit and risk management policies.
- Coordinate with the Long-Term Origination team to provide market feedback and support integrated portfolio strategy.
- Support the negotiation and execution of short-term gas sales agreements (GSAs), sales and purchase agreements (SPAs), and related contracts under guidance from the Head of Short-Term Origination/Optimisation.
- Participate in ad-hoc commercial projects and market studies as required.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Finance, Business, Economics or related field.
Required Skills
- Strong understanding of the LNG/Gas Market structures, spot trading practices, and shipping logistics.
- Excellent analytical, numerical, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to assess exposure and market opportunities.
- Effective communication and coordination skills to thrive in a fast-paced, cross-functional environment.
- Minimally 5 years of experience in LNG/Gas trading, short-term origination, or portfolio optimisation.
