The Shipyard Repair Foreman is responsible for directly supervising repair crews and ensuring ship repair tasks are carried out safely, efficiently, and in accordance with approved specifications and quality standards.
Supervise daily ship repair activities onboard vessels and in dry dock.
Lead and control repair crews including welders, fitters, mechanics, and helpers.
Assign daily work tasks and ensure adherence to drawings and work instructions.
Monitor workmanship quality and productivity.
Ensure correct use of tools, equipment, and materials.
Enforce safety rules, PPE use, and safe working practices.
Coordinate with other trades to prevent work conflicts.
Report daily progress, delays, and issues to the Supervisor.
Assist with inspections, testing, and rectification of defects.
Maintain housekeeping and safe work areas.
Technical knowledge in ship repair or marine engineering.
Minimum years hands-on experience in ship repair work. Physically capable of working long hours in outdoor shipyard environments, including exposure to heat, sun, noise, and confined spaces.
Strong practical knowledge of ship repair methods and marine systems.
Ability to read and understand technical drawings.
Good leadership and crew management skills.
Knowledge of shipyard safety procedures and permit systems
