Job Description

Role Overview

Central coordinator between internal teams and external parties (vessel owners, port agents, third-party charterers), overseeing safe and efficient dry bulk cargo movements on chartered tonnage. Responsibilities span vessel employment with external counterparties, voyage record maintenance, cost tracking, and non-demurrage claims handling.

Key Responsibilities

  • Gather port restrictions and costs; screen vessels with terminals in support of chartering.
  • Advise on hold cleaning procedures and cargo contamination claims.
  • Conduct vessel vetting; issue voyage instructions.
  • Develop and optimise stowage plans (including multi-grade) and bunker calculations.
  • Route vessels efficiently, balancing consumption profiles, weather, and arrival deadlines.
  • Manage fleet bunkering and negotiate shipping contracts (agency, towage, mooring, etc.).
  • Support trading desk on shipping legal matters; contribute to charter party clause negotiations.
  • Maintain IMOS voyage data, oversee P&L, and coordinate system reconciliations.
  • Monitor financial outstandings; provide post-voyage cost analysis.

Qualifications & Experience

  • 35 years in dry cargo shipping operations.
  • Commercial acumen, structured approach, and collaborative mindset.
  • Senior navigating officer background combined with shore-based experience is advantageous.
  • Exposure to charter party law and voyage/time-charter claims.
  • IMOS experience preferred; comfortable with Cape, Panamax, and Supramax vessels.
  • Familiarity with charter party forms, FFAs, and freight/bunker risk management.
