Shipping Accountant (1-Year Contract | Immediate Hiring)
This is a 1-year contract role which supports core finance operations, with a focus on month end close, reporting, and group submissions. The role is hands-on and suited to someone comfortable operating across full sets of accounts in a structured, deadline driven environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the processing and payment of non-trade invoices and staff claims, ensuring timely approvals and accurate postings.
- Prepare month-end journal entries and supporting schedules, including depreciation and balance sheet reconciliations.
- Perform month-end closing activities and maintain balance sheet schedules.
- Prepare fortnightly cash flow forecasts to support treasury planning.
- Prepare and submit quarterly GST returns.
- Support annual external audits, including audit confirmations and responding to ad hoc audit requests.
- Assist with corporate tax schedules and annual personal tax reporting/
- Review and administer loan facility documentation, ensuring accuracy of financing records.
- Support lease accounting activities and review related accounting entries.
- Coordinate finance documentation through DocuSign and review work completed by outsourced accounting providers.
- Assist with ad hoc finance and accounting projects as required.
Key Requirements
- Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a recognised professional qualification
- Experience in the maritime industry with a ship owner/ship management company is a must
- Around 5 years of relevant hands-on accounting experience, ideally covering full sets
- Strong understanding of financial accounting principles and month-end close processes.
- Experience with GST preparation and statutory reporting.
- Comfortable working collaboratively in a team environment, with clear communication skills
- Ability to start on short notice is advantageous
