About the Job

We are looking for an experienced and proactive Senior Manager, Marine Safety & Quality to join a well-established and internationally recognised tanker shipping group at its global headquarters.

This role plays a critical part in strengthening tanker fleet safety performance, accident and pollution prevention, emergency response readiness, and continuous improvement across vessel and shore operations. The ideal candidate will bring strong tanker seagoing credentials combined with solid shore-based safety and quality management experience within high-risk maritime operations.

Key Responsibilities

Lead the investigation and analysis of tanker-related marine incidents, accidents, near-misses, pollution events, and security incidents, ensuring accurate reporting and structured corrective and preventive actions.

Analyse incident trends, safety performance data, and vetting feedback to identify root causes, recurring risks, and effective preventive measures.

Develop, implement, and communicate fleet-wide tanker safety policies, procedures, circulars, and countermeasures, aligned with ISM Code, OCIMF, TMSA, and international regulations.

Provide practical safety, cargo, and operational advice to vessel operations, chartering, vetting, and post-fixture teams, particularly for high-risk operations such as cargo handling, terminal interface, STS operations, and navigation in restricted waters.

Support and enhance safety and quality training for shore staff and seafarers, including pre-joining briefings, lessons learned dissemination, and emergency preparedness training.

Monitor and research new maritime regulations, OCIMF guidance, industry developments, and emerging technologies related to tanker safety, environmental protection, and quality management.

Coordinate and support crisis management activities during serious incidents, including vessel casualties, pollution response, and security events, while maintaining and testing emergency response plans through drills.

Participate in cross-functional and ad-hoc projects related to tanker safety, quality, vetting readiness, and risk management.

Requirements

Degree or diploma from a recognised Maritime Academy / Marine University or equivalent.

Master Mariner with tanker sailing experience (oil / chemical / product tankers).

Minimum 2 years of shore-based experience in roles such as DPA, Deputy DPA, Marine Superintendent, Vetting Manager, or Marine/Manning Manager within a tanker shipowner or ship management organisation.

Hands-on experience managing tanker vessel emergencies, casualties, or pollution incidents from a shore-based role.

Strong communication, coordination, and decision-making skills, with the ability to work effectively across multicultural and cross-functional teams.

Experience in incident data analysis, trend review, safety KPIs, vetting feedback (e.g. SIRE 2.0), or safety statistics will be a strong advantage.
