I'm hiring a Senior Vessel Operator on behalf of a major global commodity trading house.

You'd take full end-to-end responsibility for a portfolio of dry bulk vessels, managing voyage and time charter operations from post-fixture through to completion. That means daily liaison with owners, masters, charterers and internal trading teams across multiple time zones. The company runs a flat, commercially minded freight desk and they want someone who can hold their own alongside the chartering and trading side of the business.

There's genuine scope here. They're looking for someone with the potential to grow into a broader commercial or people management role over time, not just someone to fill a seat.

What they need

• 5+ years operating dry bulk tonnage, handling at least 8-10 vessels at any given time.
• Solid post-fixture and voyage management experience. Comfortable working with owners and charterers as the main point of contact, not just processing instructions.
• IMOS experience is strongly preferred.
• You'll also need a working knowledge of trade flows and a commercial awareness that goes beyond the operational detail.
• Sea-going experience is useful but not required.
• English fluency is essential. Additional languages are a bonus.

What matters beyond the CV

Someone who takes ownership. You'll be managing external relationships with owners and customers, so they want a person others trust and want to deal with. An ability to stay calm under time pressure, communicate clearly, and work closely with the commercial teams around you.
