Responsibilities
- Create wireframes, prototypes, high-fidelity designs, and UI specifications that developers can implement with minimal clarification.
- Conduct lean user research, including interviews, usability testing, and contextual inquiry, to validate design decisions efficiently.
- Work closely with vendors to ensure the final implementation aligns with the intended design.
- Support product delivery based on organisational priorities, which may involve focusing on one major system or contributing to 2–3 related initiatives at the same time.
Cross-System Design Harmonisation
- Identify common design patterns across systems within the same service pillar, such as case management workflows, disbursement processes, and registry interfaces.
- Design with consideration for related systems and broader user journeys.
- Develop practical, lightweight component libraries and reusable design patterns across similar applications.
- Recommend design decisions that balance individual product needs with overall service consistency.
- Share relevant design insights, patterns, and learnings with product teams working on related systems.
Embedded Team Collaboration
- Work as part of product teams alongside product leads and development teams.
- Participate in agile ceremonies across assigned products while maintaining awareness of related systems.
- Translate business requirements and user needs into clear, actionable design solutions.
- Present design rationale to stakeholders, explaining both product-level decisions and cross-system considerations.
- Coordinate with product leads when design decisions may impact multiple systems within the same pillar.
Practical Design Improvement
- Promote accessibility and inclusive design in a practical and achievable way across all assigned systems.
- Identify quick wins and incremental improvements through user feedback and analytics.
- Balance product delivery timelines with opportunities to improve design consistency across related systems.
Qualifications
- At least 6 years of hands-on UX/UI design experience, with proven ability to deliver across different product types.
- Strong portfolio demonstrating end-to-end design execution across at least 5 different products or systems.
- Experience creating consistency across multiple related products, features, or systems within a product ecosystem.
- Ability to balance individual product delivery with broader design system considerations.
- Proven track record of collaborating effectively with developers and supporting successful design implementation.
Required Skills
- Expert-level proficiency in Figma, which is the primary design tool.
- Strong understanding of component-based design and reusable design patterns.
- Practical knowledge of responsive design, web accessibility standards such as WCAG 2.1, and design systems.
- Familiarity with HTML/CSS to communicate effectively with developers and assess implementation feasibility.
- Experience conducting user research through standard methods such as interviews, usability testing, and surveys.
Preferred Skills
- Strong systems-thinking ability, with the capability to move between detailed design execution and broader pattern recognition.
- Self-directed and comfortable working with ambiguity, with the ability to identify areas for design harmonisation independently.
- Pragmatic in design decision-making, knowing when consistency is important and when local optimisation is appropriate.
- Comfortable moving across different products while maintaining design coherence.
- Strong communicator who can explain both product-specific design rationale and wider cross-system implications.
- Collaborative team player who can build strong working relationships across multiple product teams.
