Senior Underwriting Manager (Property & Engineering)

About the Role
We are partnering with a leading global insurer to hire a Senior Underwriting Manager to drive growth across Property and Engineering / Construction lines in Singapore.
This is a market-facing leadership role, combining underwriting authority, portfolio ownership, and team management. You will play a key role in shaping underwriting strategy, strengthening broker relationships, and delivering profitable growth across the portfolio.
Key Responsibilities
Underwriting & Portfolio Management
- Underwrite complex Property and Engineering / Construction risks within delegated authority (up to SGD100M)
- Drive underwriting profitability, portfolio mix, and risk selection in line with company guidelines
- Structure and negotiate terms, pricing, and coverage for large corporate and commercial accounts
- Monitor portfolio performance and implement corrective actions where required
Business Development & Market Engagement
- Build and maintain strong relationships with brokers, clients, and key market stakeholders
- Actively identify and originate new business opportunities within target segments
- Represent the business in the market, positioning underwriting capabilities and appetite effectively
Leadership & Team Management
- Lead and develop a team of 2–3 underwriters
- Provide technical guidance, coaching, and performance management
- Foster a high-performance, collaborative underwriting culture
Strategy & Stakeholder Management
- Contribute to underwriting strategy, product development, and regional initiatives
- Work closely with distribution, claims, and risk engineering teams to deliver holistic solutions
- Engage with senior stakeholders across the organisation on portfolio and performance matters
Requirements
- 10+ years of underwriting experience within General Insurance, with strong exposure to Property and/or Engineering / Construction lines
- Proven underwriting authority, ideally handling large corporate risks (up to SGD100M)
- Strong market presence and broker relationships in Singapore
- Demonstrated ability to work independently while managing a portfolio end-to-end
- Prior people management experience (team of 2–3 or more)
- Strong commercial acumen with a track record of delivering profitable growth
