Background
Arx is a mobile-first crypto trading terminal built on Hyperliquid. We bring together smart-money intelligence,
execution, copy trading, and risk management into a single AI-augmented interface for retail traders.
We are part of the Advancing Intelligence Group, building next-generation products at the intersection of AI
and digital finance. Our thesis is straightforward: a new financial layer is forming — self-custodial wallets,
stablecoins, and on-chain markets — and it is reshaping who has access, who has control, and where
information advantages compound. Stablecoins are becoming a practical global digital dollar. Wallets are
evolving into modern global accounts. On-chain venues now match the latency, throughput, and reliability
required for trading-grade execution. Arx is the interface layer built on top of that stack.
The Role
We are hiring our first Founding Designer to lead end-to-end design at Arx. This is a hands-on craft role for a
senior product designer with strong UI and interaction sensibilities, genuine domain interest in trading and
crypto, and a fluent, modern approach to AI tools.
You will own the design of a high-frequency, information-dense product used by active traders. You will work
directly with the founder, partner closely with engineering, and set the design bar for everyone we hire after you.
This is not a visual-only role and not a management role. We are looking for a designer who thinks like a
product person, executes like a craftsperson, and operates with the autonomy of a senior individual contributor.
What You'll Do
Own the end-to-end product experience. Lead the design of every screen, flow, state, and micro-interaction
across mobile and web. Translate complex trading workflows into clear, fast, reliable interfaces that hold up
under volatile market conditions.
Extend our design system. Foundations are in place — design tokens, color domains, and core components
in Figma and code. You will govern this system, extend it as the product grows, and document patterns so
engineering can build against them confidently.
Direct the brand and motion surfaces. Shape the visual identity traders encounter before they download —
landing page, App Store screenshots, social and product motion, and launch assets. Define the motion
language used inside the product.
Prototype quickly and often. Your day-to-day is rapid experimentation: sketch, prototype, iterate, ship
low-fidelity, refine. We expect you to make ideas real and testable within hours, not weeks. Writing extensive
product specifications is not part of the role.
Partner with the founder on product direction. Sit in on product strategy, pressure-test ideas, surface
trade-offs, and bring the user's perspective to the table. You will have direct influence on roadmap and
priorities.
What We're Looking For
Self-Driven and Autonomous
- You operate with high ownership and minimal direction. You identify what matters and move on it without
waiting to be assigned work.
- You have shipped meaningful product without senior design oversight — as the only designer at an
early-stage startup, on a side project, or in a small team.
- You hold opinions and defend them with evidence. You change your mind quickly when shown a better path.
- You communicate design decisions clearly to engineers, founders, and other stakeholders.
Trading and Crypto Expertise
- You have personal experience trading with your own money. You can speak to market behavior, execution,
leverage, slippage, and risk management from firsthand experience.
- You currently use, or have used, at least two of the following: Hyperliquid, Phantom, Backpack, Jupiter,
dYdX, Aevo, Drift, GMX.
- You understand the core mechanics of perpetuals, funding rates, liquidation, and on-chain transactions.
- You have a developed point of view on how leading consumer trading products (Robinhood, Coinbase,
Phantom, Hyperliquid, Backpack) succeed and fail at UX.
- You are comfortable working with numerical data, financial terminology, and the psychology of high-stakes
decision-making.
AI-Native Design Craft
- You use modern AI design and prototyping tools daily. Expected fluency across a combination of Claude
design, Cursor, v0, Figma Make, Lovable, Krea, Runway, and Midjourney.
- You can describe your AI workflow concretely — which tool you reach for at which stage of the process, and
why.
- You read React and Tailwind well enough to edit AI-generated prototypes without breaking them.
- You apply a strict editorial filter to AI output. You can articulate why a generated artifact is wrong, not just
whether you like it.
- You treat AI as a force multiplier — exploring many directions quickly, then converging with taste and
judgment.
UI and Interaction Craft
- Strong fundamentals in visual design, layout, typography, and color theory.
- Demonstrated ability to design information-dense interfaces that remain clear under high cognitive load.
- Mastery of state design — loading, empty, error, latency, optimistic, partial-fill, settlement-pending, and
recovery states.
- Comfort with mobile-first design constraints: small viewports, touch targets, glanceable hierarchy.
- Fluency in motion and micro-interaction design: timing, easing, choreography. Practical experience with
Framer Motion, Lottie, or Rive is a plus.
- A discipline of restraint: you design with intention, avoid decoration, and never let visual flourish compromise
function.
Nice to Have
The following will strengthen an application but are not required:
Arx
- Founding Designer JD 3
- Short-form video and motion content production — comfort editing 15–60 second product demos for X,
TikTok, Instagram Reels, or App Store preview videos. Fluency with After Effects, CapCut, Premiere, Final
Cut, or Runway.
- Prior experience as a founding designer or design lead at an early-stage startup.
- Hands-on front-end coding experience beyond reading prototypes — for example, shipping production
HTML, Tailwind, or React.
- A public craft trail — published writing, side projects, or active presence in the design community.
