Job Description

About the Role

As a Senior Training Officer, you will play a key role in supporting adults with intellectual disabilities through quality training, programme development, and community inclusion initiatives. You will work closely with the Supervisor/Head of Centre to ensure effective programme delivery, provide guidance to junior staff, and promote holistic development that enhances clients independence, vocational readiness, and quality of life.

This role requires a passionate and proactive individual who is committed to person-centred practices, continuous improvement, and collaborative teamwork.

Key Responsibilities

Programme Leadership & Development

  • Design, implement, monitor and evaluate person-centred training programmes that support the holistic development of trainees.
  • Develop and introduce innovative training methodologies and evidence-based practices.
  • Ensure training programmes are effectively assessed, monitored and continuously improved.
  • Support trainees in areas including life skills, sensory awareness, healthy relationships, vocational readiness and community participation.
  • Stay updated on best practices, legislation and developments relating to disability services and adult education.

Trainee Case Management

  • Develop, implement and review individual training plans and intervention strategies.
  • Monitor trainees progress, behaviour, health, safety and well-being.
  • Work closely with families and caregivers to support trainees developmental goals.
  • Oversee behaviour support, motivation plans and appropriate interventions.

Vocational & Community Integration

  • Plan and implement vocational training programmes that prepare trainees for meaningful employment opportunities.
  • Assess trainees readiness for Internal Integration Programmes (IIP), community integration and open employment.
  • Facilitate community mobility training and support trainees in developing independent living and employment skills.

Centre Operations & Administration

  • Support the smooth day-to-day operations of the centre.
  • Ensure accurate documentation of trainee records, programme outcomes and case management.
  • Monitor programme quality, compliance and operational effectiveness.
  • Support inventory, facilities and estate management to maintain a safe and conducive learning environment.

Community Engagement & Volunteer Management

  • Build partnerships with community organisations, volunteers and corporate partners to enhance programmes and opportunities for trainees.
  • Coordinate community inclusion activities, centre events and public education initiatives.
  • Promote awareness and advocacy for persons with intellectual disabilities.

Leadership & Staff Development

  • Support the Head of Centre in the overall management of the centre and deputise when required.
  • Coach, mentor and guide junior staff to strengthen programme quality and professional development.
  • Foster a collaborative and positive team culture.

Financial & Resource Management

  • Support budget planning for programme activities.
  • Manage programme resources, inventories and equipment effectively.
  • Ensure prudent utilisation of centre resources.

Additional Responsibilities

The successful candidate may be assigned to lead or support one or more operational portfolios, including:

  • Workplace Safety and Health (WSH)
  • Building and facilities management
  • First aid and health programmes
  • Sports and Special Olympics
  • Camps and festive celebrations
  • Client outings and annual events
  • IT and audio-visual support
  • Staff wellness initiatives
  • Transport safety coordination
  • Case and health referral reviews
  • Other duties assigned by the Head of Centre.

Qualification & Skills

  • Degree or Diploma in Social Work, Psychology, Special Education, Occupational Therapy, Community Development or a related discipline.

Other Information

  • Relevant experience working with persons with intellectual disabilities or in the disability, education or social service sector.
  • Experience in programme planning, case management and staff supervision will be an advantage.
  • Strong interpersonal, coaching and communication skills.
  • Able to work collaboratively with families, multidisciplinary teams, volunteers and community partners.
  • Passionate about empowering persons with disabilities and promoting community inclusion.
  • Computer literacy skills - MS Words, Excel and PowerPoint
