NIE invites applications for Senior Technical Specialist position in the Natural Sciences and Science Education (NSSE) Department. This is a 2-year contract position.

The key role of the Senior Technical Specialist is to take care of different aspects of the teaching laboratories, thereby ensuring the smooth and efficient running of laboratory operations, including the safety of laboratory users.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical support for pre-service, in-service, and postgraduate laboratory classes, including preparation and facilitation of physics experiments.
  • Prepare, maintain, and repair laboratory instruments and analogue/digital electronics used in teaching and research.
  • Support STEM activities and specialised programmes, including Physics Olympiad training through experimental setup and technical assistance.
  • Manage procurement, budgeting, purchasing, and inventory for laboratory equipment and consumables. Plan for maintenance, upgrades, and spare parts,liaising with suppliers and staff as required.
  • Maintain laboratories and teaching classrooms, ensuring audiovisual systems and instruments are operational and general readiness.
  • Uphold laboratory safety standards and procedures, maintain required records, support research activities, and perform other assigned duties.

Requirements

  • A University Degree in Physics, Engineering, or related field.
  • Experience in physics lab operations, safety protocols, analogue and digital electronics, and equipment maintenance.
  • Experience in providing technical support to students in higher education and interest in STEM education and research will be an added advantage.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and oral.
  • Ability to multi-task, work independently and effectively in a team.
  • Hard working, self-disciplined, responsible, and committed.
