Job Description

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

Regional leadership for company income tax, transaction tax, transfer pricing, business support, and other tax areas reporting to the VP, Global Tax at Corporate HQ in Denver with dotted line reporting to VP, Finance APAC. The position will plan a key role in tax advisory and transfer pricing strategies, assure tax accounting under ASC 740 and compliance with SOX 404, manage tax compliance (direct and indirect) and tax audits for all entities in the Asia Pacific and China (APAC) region while partnering with HQ tax, regional finance colleagues, and business leaders, and external service providers.

How You Will Lead & Contribute

Corporate Tax, Transfer Pricing, Compliance and Provision

  • Manage the process for timely preparation of corporate income tax returns of APAC entities (with a focus on entities in China, particularly those with the high and new technology enterprise designation, and India) prepared by combination of local finance teams and external service providers and ensure timely filing, completeness, and accuracy of such returns.
  • Identify and implement strategies to drive efficiencies, centralization, and standardization in the corporate tax filing, compliance, and reporting policies and procedures.
  • Ownership of quarterly tax provisions and uncertain tax positions reviews for all APAC entities and provide constructive real time feedback, ensuring overall consistency with FAS 109 and ASC 740, including US and local GAAP differences, tax and accounting differences properly recognized and treated, and DTA and DTL properly recorded.
  • Collaborate with HQ transfer pricing director and local finance teams to ensure appropriate charge-outs of regional services costs and setting of appropriate mark-up on intercompany goods transactions.
  • Oversee the review of transfer pricing reports of APAC entities prepared by service providers and ensure timely filing, completeness, and accuracy of such reports.
  • Drive tax operation excellence including but not limited to systematic business process integration of tax checkpoints, standardization, automation and regular tax health diagnosis.

VAT Tax

  • Manage the process for timely preparation of VAT/GST tax returns of APAC entities
  • Track and analyze changing VAT/GST regulations across the APAC landscape and implement necessary operational updates.

Planning and Research

  • Lead tax planning strategies in business transactions, cross-border tax issues (e.g., profit repatriation strategies, withholding taxes, transfer pricing) and partnering with the business across APAC to minimize taxes consistent with overall corporate objectives.
  • Research complex tax issues for tax planning, tax accounting, compliance and reporting, and support regional projects, including reorganization and post-acquisition integration.

Audit Defense

  • Manage direct and indirect tax audits in the region (with a focus on China and India), group representation in audits, litigation and negotiation with government authorities relating to tax matters.
  • Organize and supervise the preparation of ruling requests, refund claims, objections, protests and administrative appeals relating to APAC entities under tax audits, investigation and litigation.
  • Discuss audit findings with revenue authorities and negotiate positions.

Treasury Matters

  • Review dividends proposed and withholding tax implications.
  • Collaborate with Treasury to develop tax-efficient funding strategies that are in line with the goals of the company and execute on such strategies.

Law Updates

  • Advise senior management of the impact of new laws, court decisions, regulations, rulings, and proposed tax legislation

What You Will Need To Be Successful

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance, preferably with CPA or MBA in Tax.
  • Minimum 10 years of diverse Corporate Tax experience from a Public Accounting Firm or large Multinational Corporation.
  • Thorough understanding of FAS 109 and proficient with tax provision reviews.
  • Knowledge of tax-accounting principle and advance analytical skills are essential.
  • Solid collaboration skills with the ability to work with senior management and across levels or function to effectively achieve desired results.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, capability to engage with a wide variety of stakeholders such as legal, accounting, treasury and external liaison.
  • Pragmatic business acumen with the ability to recognize or understand the business strategies, priorities, goals and consequences of tax advisory.
  • Strong project management and prioritization skills such as project organization and time management.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office; Excel or Advance Excel, PowerPoint, Word, etc.
  • Adaptability to consistently changing facts or environment.
  • High energy and drive, including an ability to work beyond regular business hours, as necessary.
  • Demonstrative willingness to be a collaborative and consultative leader or team player with the ability to work independently and efficiently.
  • Willingness to travel, particularly within the APAC region.
  • Good command of English.
