Job Responsibilities
1. Clinical Education, Orientation and Training
- Work under the supervision of the Senior Clinical Educator to identify, plan, implement and evaluate orientation, in-service and continuing education programmes for nursing staff.
- Facilitate ward-based learning, clinical updates and competency development in collaboration with Clinical Educators and Nurse Managers.
- Provide clinical supervision, coaching and preceptorship to junior staff, newly recruited nurses, graduate nurses and nursing students.
- Monitor and evaluate the clinical performance and competency development of new staff and nursing students, and provide timely feedback to relevant supervisors.
- Guide junior staff in patient education, including the development of individualised health education and self-management plans for patients, families and caregivers.
- Maintain clinical education and supervision standards in accordance with organisational and professional requirements.
2. Clinical Practice and Patient Safety
- Promote and role-model safe, evidence-based and patient-centred nursing practice in collaboration with inter-professional teams.
- Guide junior staff in the safe management of patient admission, transfer, discharge and transition of care across teams and settings.
- Support early recognition and escalation of patient deterioration through appropriate assessment, observation and clinical judgement.
- Provide guidance and coordination during medical emergencies or crisis situations within the clinical area.
- Monitor the performance of junior staff in patient care activities and delegated clinical tasks, intervening where necessary to maintain patient safety.
3. Quality Improvement, Research and Evidence-Based Practice
- Participate in Nursing and Hospital quality assurance, patient safety and work improvement initiatives, including monitoring their effectiveness.
- Review clinical practices, including infection prevention and control, and identify opportunities for improvement.
- Review near-miss, incident and error information and contribute to appropriate improvement strategies and action plans.
- Use relevant benchmarks, audits and performance indicators to evaluate and improve nursing and patient safety practices.
- Collaborate with inter-professional teams in implementing quality improvement initiatives and recommended interventions.
- Keep abreast of developments and emerging trends in nursing and healthcare, and recommend improvements to nursing practice and services.
- Apply relevant research findings to clinical practice and participate in research or evidence-based practice activities where appropriate.
4. Staff Development and Ward Support
- Support the orientation and integration of new staff into the clinical environment.
- Identify learning needs, provide appropriate coaching and escalate performance or competency concerns to Nurse Managers and Clinical Educators.
- Anticipate and address clinical, learning or operational issues within the scope of the role, escalating matters appropriately where required.
- Support ward preceptors and junior staff in achieving identified clinical learning and competency objectives.
5. Administration and Programme Support
- Assist in the implementation and facilitation of new and existing nursing education or clinical programmes within wards and units.
- Maintain and track in-service training, competency and education records.
- Assist in preparing reports, statistics and other documentation related to clinical education and staff development.
- Serve on committees, workgroups or projects as assigned.
- Undertake other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Senior Clinical Educator or Management leadership.
Job Specifications
- Registered Nurse with a minimum of 5 years post-registration experience.
- Required to have a post basic and/or degree in nursing and shows evidence of effort in continuing professional growth
- Has aptitude for coaching. (Experience in teaching will be an added advantage).
