Our Client is a non-profit organisation providing residential and community-based eldercare services. We are seeking a Senior Speech Therapist to deliver specialised speech and swallowing care for residents, provide clinical leadership, and support multidisciplinary care planning within the nursing home setting.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive assessments for residents with speech, language, communication, voice, and swallowing disorders, including dementia and neurogenic conditions
- Develop and implement individualised, evidence-based intervention and dysphagia management plans
- Deliver therapy through individual and group sessions, mealtime observations, and caregiver or staff training
- Monitor, evaluate, and document residents progress, adjusting care plans to support safety, nutrition, and quality of life
- Work closely with nursing staff, doctors, dietitians, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, and social workers to support integrated resident care
- Participate in multidisciplinary ward rounds, case conferences, and care planning meetings
- Provide supervision, mentoring, and clinical guidance to junior therapists and therapy assistants in line with regulatory requirements
- Support staff training on safe feeding practices, communication strategies, and risk management
- Maintain accurate and compliant clinical documentation and reports
- Contribute to internal protocols, quality improvement initiatives, audits, and risk management activities
- Support family education and counselling related to communication and swallowing needs
Requirements
- Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Speech-Language Therapy or its equivalent recognised by Allied Health Professional Council (AHPC)
- Fully registered or eligible for full registration with AHPC
- Minimum 3-5 years of relevant clinical experience, preferably in geriatric, rehabilitation, or long-term care settings
- Experience providing staff and caregiver training in nursing home or residential care settings
- Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary nursing home environment
- Willing to travel to provide care across multiple centres
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and documentation skills
- Proactive, adaptable, and committed to continuous professional development
