Job Description

JOB ROLE DESCRIPTION

Market Operations team consists of two sub-teams (1)Securities Operations (2) Treasury Operations.

The primary responsibility of the Senior Specialist of Treasury Operations is to be the subject matter expert for the activities performed by the Treasury Operations team. The Treasury Operations team handles the following products including(but not limited to): Foreign Exchange (FX), Money Market (MM), Interest Rate Swaps (IRS), Futures, Credit Default Swaps (CDS), Options. He / She is responsible for managing and coordinating the activities in the team on Treasury and FX transactions processing, confirmations, settlement, breaks resolution and including monitoring the nostro cash accounts for overdrawn / excess.

As part of the Markets Operations team, the incumbent is expected to be able to back up and lead the activities of the Securities Operations team involved in performing securities transactions processing, clearing, confirmations, settlement. This include monitoring the custody cash accounts for overdrawn / excess and ensuring that it is adequately funded for timely settlements of the securities activities.

The incumbent is responsible for ensuring compliance to any applicable guidelines, laws and regulations. He/ She ensures that all operational issues related to team are escalated and resolved in a timely manner and all concerns on the operation process are being addressed. He/ She is also responsible for validating and disseminating relevant information to his team.

He/ She provides support to the team on day-to-day operational responsibilities related to the respective business lines. The team manager possesses team leadership abilities and manages team members to ensure goals are achieved. He/ She is also able to work under pressure, multi-task and deliver results in a timely manner. He/ She possesses good analytical skills and is methodical and achievement-oriented. He is able to drive a team to take up new responsibilities in the form of new products or new tasks.

Main Responsibilities

Perform transactions processing

(Primary Responsibilities - Products supported by Treasury Operations include (but not limited to): Foreign Exchange (FX), Money Market (MM), Interest Rate Swaps (IRS), Futures, Credit Default Swaps (CDS))

(Secondary Responsibilities - Products supported by Securities Operations include (but not limited to): Fixed Income Securities, Floating Rate Notes, Repurchase Agreements, Total Return Swaps (TRS), Euro Medium Term Notes (EMTN))

  • Ensure timely and accurate processing and settlement of transactions/operations
  • Ensure all details required for processing (such as loans and deposits, foreign exchange, securities) against source documents are accurately recorded for daily confirmation of all transactions
  • Verify transaction confirmations and statements to clients (applicable to Settlement team)
  • Ensure confirmations are matched in systems and payments are triggered prior to cut-off times
  • Ensure all enquiries related to pre and post-execution are effectively managed
  • Conduct completeness checks at the end of the day for regulatory transaction reporting
  • Ensure that all reconciliation breaks are resolved timely
  • Monitor Custody / Nostro Cash Accounts for overdrawn / excess.

Execute settlement and clearing

  • Perform successful transaction settlements by confirming transactions and providing delivery settlement instructions to appropriate parties
  • Approve cash settlements in banking platforms and/or systems whilst ensuring adherence to the cut-off times
  • Ensure wire transfers are properly done
  • Monitor interest and/or coupon settlement and principal repayment of all products
  • Resolve unconfirmed transactions and discrepancies

Prepare reporting

  • Validate daily, monthly, weekly, quarterly and ad hoc reports
  • Analyse reports for external reporting to regulatory bodies and internal use
  • Disseminate various memos, reports, and internal and external correspondence as appropriate and on a timely basis
  • Evaluate and remain updated on new and existing activities
  • Ensure that the team is compliant with regulatory and internal requirements.
  • Derive and implement good practice sand controls in addressing all related Ops incidents and issues. Close Operational gaps in the process with feasible solutions.
  • Ensure that procedures are updated in the team's process.
  • Lead the team to support the business in their undertaking of new products, variations of new products and other ad hoc tasks
  • Proactive and assume overall responsibility in the designing of UAT test cases and providing the guidelines on UAT for the team.
  • Drie industry testing (e.g. MAS, HKMA, APRA, etc) and ensure successful completion

Continuous Improvement and Efficiency

  • Develop plans for continuous improvement that mitigates or adequately address operational risks (e.g. automation of processes)
  • Assist the Head of Operations to evaluate emerging industry trends and design appropriate operating models, taking into consideration overall business strategy and long-term transformation plan.
  • Participate in ad-hoc projects as required.

  • At least 7 years of relevant experience in Treasury Operations in Banking.
